I thought Behan was excellent tonight. Strong, steady and showed some lovely touches. I thought Fredriksen looked quite bright at times, though he often seemed to be chasing shadows. McSweeney is a good signing, Austin was caught out too often for my liking and I thought the trialist Dan Smith was very calm and assured on the ball and didn't panic, though his distribution could be somewhat better. Monkhouse and Mackay were poor. Anthony Sweeney looked lost. Saying that, Sheff Wed played some very good football and looked a lot more up for it than we were.

How long did Denis get? (He started on the bench, yeah?)

Nice to hear some positive feedback - I maintain (like a stuck record) that we are desperately weak in centre mid in my opinion and this is where most games are won and lost. I won't go again through the attributes/concerns of the players we do have for those positions (and I know many rate the lads who are competing for the slots) but I don't think any are good enough for us to be a successful team. For me this was the main problem as well, over ran in midfield most games (I know its easy to blame the leaky defence which was true as well)

Rowell is the only one who has shown flashes of real quality but I haven't seen enough of him and Turner doesn't seem to think he's ready.

Totally agree. Dont know what kept Mckay at the club. Impressed with Behan better than Mckay and Foley.

Don't disagree with that Chip at all, ALB is the worst goalkeeper I have ever seen play professional football (never mind the defending around him), wouldn't have him in my amateur team.

Flinders made a brilliant save in the Second half and does look commanding and his distribution was good.

I was surprised Jones didn't get more of a run out. What was that about?

Jones couldnt have been any worse. We may have a mass of central midfielders but going by that performance alone, its there and in defence where our problems are.

I was impressed with Behan too. Strong with a decent touch. The polar opposite to Mackay basically.

I also agree that we're weak in central midfield. They just don't link the defence with the attack, as they should, and it makes us really disjointed. I really don't know who our best central midfield pair is.

Soz I was refering to ALB being the worst goalie we have ever had. "cough Jones cough" not Jones the midfielder who I think is a good player.

its not surprising coming from tree is it. Im not judging anyone on a meaningless game. Its pointless, lets see how they play when their balls are on the line.

Would someone care to explain how Tree was saying Jones was rubbish in this statement??!! sctatchinghead

It certainly doesnt read that way to me!

Its the same people who keep reading what they want to read. Try reading threads properly FFS. It doesnt require THAT much effort.

I did.

Someone asked why Jones wasnt given more of a run out and i replied with "he couldnt have been any worse"

But people see what they want to see.

Tree, serious question here. Are you a woman? It's just you argue like a woman. Oh, and the face you're always wrong.

the statement " jones could not have done any worse " is ambigous at best.

if i baked a cake and the cake making judge stated " fireball could not have done any worse " i would assume that i had done a bad job.

if jones played 10 minutes surely the comment should have been " jones was better than the player he replaced" or " jones was better than the 2 who started in the centre of midfield" or " we would have been better served starting with jones."

apologies for taking the comment literally.

for what its worth i thought jones was our best midfield player last season.

I get your point, was a direct answer to Kobbler or whoevers post and I forgot to quote him first.

If i was going to say he was shite then id just say it.
