I'd prefer Culloden.

Andy Murray only wanted to be BRITISH when he needed the BRITISH support at Wimbledon. When the World cup comes around next year he will revert back to being a Jock with anti ENGLISH attitude. Don't forget his purchase of the Paraguay shirt. The cameras didn't dwell on the couple of people with the 3 lions on their shirts, they were probably winding him up anyway.

Oh do give over FFS. The level of pure bottle the lad displayed tonight was amazing. The England World Cup comment a couple of years was a fooking joke. Get over yourselves.

I watched it with the sound turned off (Rad & Mac on the radio) it's a good way to form your own opinion about the action you're seeing. Murray was very ordinary with no serve and loads of mistakes. If he comes up against anyone who can play tennis and he will, he's a dead sock.

I agree he wasn't at his best but most of that was down to his opponent's performance. However he did win and that was down to bottle.

Did anyone else find it tedious?
Mind you, in that respect it's just like all tennis matches.

he'll only win, if Federer slips up against someone in his half of the draw !
but I can't see that happening.

Why did the BBC feel it necessary to shove a microphone in front of his face, seconds after the match finished? Wouldn't have dared do that to Federer.

Wish someone would smack that Garry Richardson...

It makes you laugh, that bloke Troicki he played in the last round didn't really give him that much of a match, he was 2 sets up very quickly and then we get a match like yesterday and the latest ever finish at Wimbledon - it just had to be a British bloke that was there 'til 10:40, didn't it?

People were still waving British flags last night.

Got to admit I couldn't care less if Murray wins.

For me he's Scottish. After working up there for two years you can keep the lot of them. Most of them hate us with a passion, don't let them fool you with "It's only in Football" or "It's only the English media" or "it's only a bit of fun", I've been in pubs in Aberdeen when England have been playing and it's not pretty.

Just to prove how fooked up it is, I've watched an England match in Glasgow in a pub full of Rangers fans who supported England and Britain to the hilt.

They're almost independent now. Time to let the union go. Cheer on your neighbour by all means, but it means nothing to me whether he wins or loses.

The great thing about Wimbledon is as soon as it's finished people forget all about it. They don't harp on about this or that passing shot for years on end like they do with Maradonna goals or Azerbaijani linesmen's decisions.

So if you never watched it in the first place it's as if it never existed. :coool:

I think the nature of the sport is different from football in that that can't happen. But, if Murray should lose on Wednesday, we'll remember last night's game because it went on so late under the new roof - it was a very historic day yesterday where Wimbledon was concerned.

They will also remember watching 4 hours and 48 mins of Nadal vs. Federer in that epic 2008 final as well.

I don't think it's in the nature of the sport, more in the nature of the fans. Many football fans seem to have total recall for every kick in every match they ever saw. Meself, I can rarely remember who we played last week!

You are spot on Norge!!! I was working up in Aberdeen the last time in 2002 during the World Cup, I thought I would watch our game with Denmark in one of the local pubs which boasted a big screen, when I drove past it on my way from work it had a large noticeboard outside which boldly stated 'If you HATE the English sound your horn' and do you know what just about everyone was. I had to sit in my hotel room, watching a 15" TV, with my England shirt on and the door locked as I was told by a colleague that some English lads up in Union Street had been beaten quite badly for what? Being English and supporting England!! Incidentally there were probably more Denmark and later, Brazil shirts worn by Scots than Danes and Brazillians.

Not an expert in that as well are you Chippy.

And as for getting out, well, you do seem to spend as much time as PoK pounding the keyboard. How do you fit all that tennis and footy and everything in. A human dyanamo no doubt.

Chip plays his game on the central estates tennis courts

Keeps one fit avoiding all that dog $hite, broken glass ansd used syringes

And no doubt he had £20 @ 12/1 Bar with £15 layed off on the result of Iraq vs St Kitts 2nd 11, which was shown on ESPN

Ditto about my knowledge of tennis. I just watched it with the sound turned off.

I wouldn't have watched it normally but I was partly referring to an earlier thread where some one said that they couldn't watch footy with the sound turned off because of lack of atmosphere.

When you don't have the distraction of expert commentators you can actually pick out where individual players are influencing games, where superior speed etc in passing movements etc are giving teams an advantage. I've often been surprised at the verdicts given by the 'experts' when the sounds gone back on.

It was the same last night with Murray. The intensity the top players have was missing. You didn't have to be an expert it was there to see. A lot of the points he dropped were when Murray didn't pounce on the shot with the killer instinct that you would've seen from McEnroe for instance.

The only problem is it took 3 hours and 57 minutes to beat another Swiss bloke who could play.

How long could it take Andy Murray to beat a former number one?

I would argue partially that it's all to do with social change etc and also to help make the names of the players stick out in the modern world, when just calling them like they did in the past could make them seem as if they were just an ordinary person, when now they could be thought as someone.
