...when I look at the League 1 transfer news, all I see is clubs raiding other clubs in the same division or in lower divisions (Pools being no exception unless you count Hartley's single substitute appearance).
If Norwich being happy with Nelson is a guide, I don't see any real need to be frightened of the division this season. So if we can complete our signings with a top quality creative midfielder in addition to Rose and the goalies, we might actually be allowed to start imagining Pools have prospects.

Signings apart, in previous successful seasons quality has also emerged from within our own ranks. In the 2003-2004 promotion run-in Sweeney and Boyd transformed the team, while Provett had already had an excellent first season. Then the following season Dimi and Porter came through, both of them speculative rather than cartwheel signings. Then James Brown made a big impact in his first full season .

Maybe by May we'll all be talking about how Tymon and Power turned our season round? I love speculation me.

It's true though. I thought when Leeds were on about signing that full back (Crowe??) from Northampton, a relegated League One side, and considering him a coup, that we'd done slightly better than than, even so far. You'd have to think that with the new signings, plus Brown back from injury, we have the core of a decent new team. I am as worried about the almost complete lack of keepers as anyone else, like.
