They need us as much as we need them......only use the car when necessary......don't make yourself suffer like, just take a little bit of care.

Just the slightest reduction in consumption worries 'em cos they've got billions of poundsworth of the stuff in transit at anyone time and if they've got nowhere to put it they're screwed.

They reduce production to raise prices. drivers can reduce consumption to achieve the opposite effect.

The less you use it the more they are going to charge the others, you cant win. its a bit of a catch 22 situation!

oil and gas is sold up too and beyond 2 years in advance, thier are no tankers wandering around aimlessly with no where to go  We need the price of oil up to at least $70 a barreall this will still not please the oil companies enough but it might stop them from pulling out of current offshore projects and ventures, which would be catastrophic for everyone.

Tankers will be sailing around aimlessly if consumption decreases in spite of what was predicted two years ago. The oil industry has had our testacles in it's hands for too long and has a vested interest in the continuing use of fossil fuels. If the oil market collapses maybe it'll make it profitable for someone to do something about the alternatives.

Might get Mr Parry looking for alternative employment but hey, that's a small price to pay.

Sorry about the quip mate.

You're obviously a pro in your field and onlookers like me love having a pop.

Must say I'm saving a lot of money by being careful with using the car and you can't deny that if enough of us use less plus decreased industrial activity it's going to have lower the price of fuel which feels pretty good at this end of the supply chain.

Your argument seemed to be that we have a duty to support our global oil industry. Now that is bollox.

Just read in the paper that there are nearly a dozen oil tankers anchored in Lyme Bay Devon waiting for the price of oil to rise. Shipping agents say they are wating for discharge orders.

I said that if everyone was a bit careful and reduced consumption it would have an effect on the the cost of fuel and that the oil companies would worry when they had nowhere to put the oil.

Well it looks as though it's worked.

If I was an oil company executive and I had god knows how much oil in a ship anchored in Lyme Bay at god knows what cost, I think I'd be suffering from a twitchy botty.

Thats the point, they're not the money making machine they were a couple of years ago.

Last year they put the prices up to a ridiculous level and every one said sod that I'll use a bit less. They're committed in a big way to getting the stuff out of the ground, refined and then into petrol tanks all at vast profits. When car drivers take the hump at having the piss taken and use a bit less they end up with ships full of the stuff with nowhere to put it.

Right now they're not making the bloated profits they're used to and I don't suppose reduced industrial activity is cheering them up either.

So we're now at 93p a litre for unleaded. How much more is it expected to rise?
