Nine people were arrested after trouble flared during a protest march, a police spokeswoman said.

The march in Luton, Bedfordshire, was in support of the Armed Forces.

Earlier this year Muslim extremists protested during the Royal Anglian Regiment's homecoming parade in the town.

A Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman said: "The peaceful marchers formed up in Manor Park - however, other large groups who had been in the town centre pubs all afternoon did not join the march. It was clear that some were determined to cause trouble and broke away from the main march in several groups and up some of the side streets running off George Street."

An Asian man was assaulted in the street and an Asian-owned business had its windows smashed in the trouble that followed.

Nine people were arrested for public order offences, criminal damage and assault.

Supt Richard Moffatt, of Luton police, said: "It is likely that more arrests may be made in the coming days after we've have had a chance to study CCTV and other evidence.

"I would like to reassure the community that we'll do everything we can to bring these people to justice and we don't take the criminal offences that have happened today lightly."

A group called March for England applied to Luton Borough Council for permission to march through the town centre on Sunday but their application was turned down.

A council spokeswoman said it became aware a small group of people planned to go-ahead with the march anyway. She said: "We advised people that if they were going to take part they should make sure it was a safe march.

There mistake was not calling the march the muslim lets shout abuse at the soldiers coming home parade.

As far as I can tell nobody got arrested for shouting on either march.

The arrests were probably linked to the assault on an asian man and the attack on an asian owned restaurant. Just a guess but might the March for England be a far right attempt to cash in on anger about the original anti- British presence in Afghanistan/ Iraq protest?

I don't think protesting against returning soldiers is the best way to oppose a war but, even if it is misguided, it doesn't justify racist attacks if that is what went on afterwards.

If a few numpties shouting abuse justifies the racist attacks that happened afterwards did you & your mates singing your Bobby Sands song justify a few IRA attacks that happened afterwards ?

Come off it Mr.Groovy....if it happened in this town be they Black, White, Chinese or fecking Green I'd be there at the next demo against the spinless kunts....and if the original protesters got a kicking so be it!!!! confised confised

To me it's nothing at all about Race!!!! confised

Now I'm against these 'Wars' but to shout down and abuse returning Soldiers who've just been laying their lives on the line is totally despicable!!!! rage rage rage

Me and Mr.Parmo were talking to a bloke in Luton late on after they had won the JPT and he was one of the organisers of these 'Anti-Protesters Protesters'....we both said we'd love to be in the Protest....but we're from Hartlepool!!!! confised confised

I wonder if Mr.Parmo can actually remember that!!!!

I totally agree & if there are reprisals for those individuals involved thats fair enough but according to Luton police...

Quote:

That says to me than an innocent man has been assaulted & an innocent business had its windows put through by a bunch of thugs.
You cant blame every Asian in Luton for the behaviour of those numpties that shouted abuse.

I have been 5 times from the ages of 8 - 24 due to family holidays etc, its good but you just get sick to the back teeth with the over the top feel of the place, although the roller coasters etc are good, that dam "its a small world ride" song will live with me till the day I die. Still got 5 holidays out of it, but dont think I would ever go to America again on holiday and if I do would only be to New York to see my family.

Never been to the Florida one, but been to Paris more times than anyone should have to endure and been to Disneyland as well.

You can keep it for me.

As the man says: "It's a small world" will also haunt me forever.

Now Six Flags, a pure rollercoaster park is more my thing. (and luckily the kids now) and you can do it in a day!

Fensy,Elvis did you guys stay in a Disney reasort ?
I spent 2 weeks in a Disney resort & Im afraid it was the worst place Ive ever stayed in my life.
The food was pretty much McDonalds standard, every meal was on paper plates with plastic cutlery there wasnt even a kettle in the room & the bastads tried to charge me $60(£40) for the Mrs making an 8 minute phone call.
I will accept that the rides are good, but the rest of it is just over priced shite & a marketing ploy to get you in the gift shops buying crap.

I think there is quite a few. The one we went to had about 8 top notch white knuckle rides. Still had to go out through a gift shop of course but nowhere near as bad as Disney.

I fully expected the high prices, what pissed me off was the low quality.

I think that Mr Dead stayed in the same hotel as stayed, the entertainment in the bar on the nights we we were in was good as well, I have been twice and stayed in the same hotel both times. I Drive is ideal as there are plenty of different options for meals out.

I am still in shock whenever i think about the Italians we went to which was over the road from our hotel, the portion sizes were just huge, we got half portion sizes and it was still too much.

Most of the places we went to were fairly cheap as well, the most expensive restaurant we went to was a steak place a couple of doors down from the Italian and it was still only around $160 for the 2 of us which was about £90 back when we went, but that included a fair few beers for me and a bottle of wine for the mrs

We bought a $20 phone card from the hotel lobby which let us use the phone in our room, I think we got around 10-15 minutes for that

Another thing that made it seem cheap for us...I got my Dollars last January, at a rate of 1.94.

I think it's coming back in the right direction now, but at one point it was as low as 1.44

Went to Cancun, Mexico in March best rate I could get back then was 1.40, All the airports had the Dollar as low as 1.35 so was chuffed with 1.40, Glad its creeping back up now though

you've got more money than the rest of us put together Kev!!!
If you go to the States, a hire car is a must so you can get around and see what's there apart from the theme parks. We mixed it up really well in 2 visits to Florida (about 5 weeks in total)
The restaurants and the diners away from the theme parks serve up cushty scran, and for as cheap as you like!!!!
I would never go into a theme park hotel personally - plus you're stuck really without transport. There's loads of villas to be rented out with their own pool etc - that's the way to do it!!!

New York is an amazing place to visit, been there twice
