hope those men of a certain age who went had a good time.

to be fair it sounded like he was doing the exact same song that he was doing at 9pm when we walked out at 10pm.

He asked if he could have a game but refreshingly we had 10.

I think you've got that the wrong way around. Hartlepool is important to most of us on here, Morrissey is certainly not.

Sorry but Morrissey means nothing to me, if it wasn't for musical threads on here I wouldn't have the faintest idea of who he used to be.

You are missing the point that the only reason he would was because of the love of money not of the town, oh lets all worship at his feet for being bothered to turn up to collect a pay day. I will mention this to my boss when I walk into work tomorrow that I should be thanked for turning up.

So why did he chose smaller venues and no bigger ones? He played smaller venues because he thought it would be more "intimate".

It was a great gig and it was sold out.

Those who went seem to agree

Those who didn't either don't like him (unusual for people to slate stuff on this board) or where gutted they couldn't go.

The man is more famous than anyone who posts on this board and has played a large part in English musical history.

You don't like him but you love him. Either way you're wrong. You're gonna miss him when he's gone.

spot on salty!!!

we have some total numpty's on his board

the aliens are a good band or should i say the beta band are a very good band but don't make a twat of your self by saying "it isnt even the most musically significant event taking place in hartlepool this week, given the aliens are playing at the studio "

another comment was he only come here for a pay day!!! WTF they was only 1000 people there, this was by far the smallest gig he was playing in the full tour.

i don't see many other artists/bands who are signed to a major label busting a bollock to play the town-fair play to him for playing here, even if the brough hall did not make a penny the local pubs/taxi companies/restaurants will of all had a increase in business that night, more money for our local economy, which i'm sure local business would be pleased of

we have a great venue there which should be used more to get signed acts playing there

no doubt we'll still have negitive comments on here as per usaul, getting more like the rivals board on here everyday,

WTF ????

seriously creepy post.

some of us dont like him, surely we are entitled to an opinion ?

if he died tomorrow i personally, wouldnt bat an eyelid.

They're Morrissey lyrics mate. But you in your infinite wisdom would know that wouldn't you?!?
You are entitled to your opinion, but why try to make others look small when people have posted that they've had a good time? You don't do it to your chums from the Clique when they've been so see Hugh Cornwell (legend btw) or other gigs.

I like The Aliens like. Not going tonight as I have other commitments but a proper good band.

Incidentally, why on earth is the Borough Hall not used for more gigs. It's one of the best venues i've ever been in and the only major artist i've seen in there is Morrissey (twice). I've actualy played there the same amount of times in 2 different bands!

ffs can you actually read ?

where did i say they sold more albums ? i said musically significant.

the morrissey gig was a one off, you can pretty much guarantee there wont be any similar gigs at that venue in the next 12 months.

the aliens gig on the other hand is part of an ongoing genuine attempt by a local promoter to bring current and cutting edge bands back to a local venue rather than tribute bands.

once again, i didnt make a judgement either way, i simply said you could put up a good argument.

Yeah fair play to Andy for trying to get good bands playing the town, but to be fair the fence collective have been playing hartlepool for the past 5 years and it's always the same faces who go to the gigs, Hartlepool as a town should be getting big acts i'm sick of having to go to Newcastle and boro if i want to see a band on tour, the brough hall/town hall and the studio are great venues which should be used better than what they are at present

and i went for something to eat before the Morrissey gig and seen around like alot of people who went to the gig eating in that bar in the grand hotel

my best mate on this board was at the morrissey gig, my daughter had tickets for it, as did her mother. my brother has seen him and the smiths a boatload of times, as have most of the people i have associated with at varying points in my life.

i have one smiths single and one album. i have no morrissey solo records. i'm very unlikely to recognise any of his lyrics.

i dont recall posting anything suggesting people would be smaller as a result of attending.

you started a musical thread about an artist on a message board and are now getting upset that people dont like him. i think the new conor oberst album is great but im not gonna lose sleep if other people on here think its a pile of shiit.

all i can say is that its a good job you dont like queen, the clash, radiohead, pink floyd or the white negroes.[/quote]

I like all of them bands

What i am trying to say is i cant understand the mentality of someone slating an event that they never even went to. Oh, you heard a bit outside. You must be right.

It might be the way of the message board to be deliberately antagonistic or maybe it's a cry for attention on your behalf. I honestly dont know.

You bang on about plenty of bands and I like most of them that you mention. Some of them, I don't (Oberst being one). I have never slated them and never would. Don't think anyone else has either.

Enjoy your tea!

Of his set list he does about 4 Smiths songs, the rest are solo works.

I went to see him at Manchester Apollo tonight and he was really good and I really enjoyed myself and I don't care what anyone else thinks.

He had no special guest with him on stage.

He had a very bizarre support act called Doll and The Kicks, the famale lead singer looked like Freddie Mercury from the neck down. And she had a giant bow on her head.

Having watched about 2 minutes of James Brown on BBC4 tonight I completely accept that some (probably most) ageing or aged stars should just forget it and go gardening. It was utter, utter rubbish. Let me just add that when his stuff was current, I thought it was great.

But not all artists suffer from the "same again" (properly called the Jagger) syndrome. Some do remain valid. For example I will not admit for a second that David Bowie has nothing new to offer. He has reinvented himself more times than probably any other artist in history. Why then should I think that now, suddenly, he is irrelevant when there are so many "young" pretenders who are totally popular but overwhelmingly irrelevant (did someone say Coldplay?).

Now, from a completely different point of view, take someone like Frank Sinatra. He didn't need to be relevant. The mere idea of his being relevant is irrelevant. He just *had* it, and it was unique. No one else alive could serve the same dish. Giving it up would have been tantamount to treason.

So there.

showaddywaddy.

the novelty value lasted about 5 minutes. 10 minutes into their set the audience started to turn hostile. they carried on regardless.

geno washington and the ram jam band did something similar at the lyceum circa 1985. after about an hour i wanted to shoot mr washington in the face.

great venue the lyceum.

people are mourning the loss of the astoria, but it was/is a shithole.

Right!, see I've never heard of either Einsturzende Neubaten or showaddywaddy.

Changing tack a bit, did anyone go to Evolution yesterday? The bairn went and can't seem to decide to come home. I keep getting these phone calls....'I'm getting the 10 o'clock train'.....'I'm getting the 2 o'clock train'....'No, wait, it's the 3 o'clock train now.'
