NEWS that Dimi Konstantopoulos is close to leaving Coventry City should receive a warm response from Pools fans.

The Greek stopper is perhaps the player who best personifies the swift exit from League Two as his record-breaking haul of clean sheets was the central factor in Pools achieving promotion.

Undoubtedly, big Dimi would receive a rapturous reception if he did come back to Victoria Park and you can't question his pedigree in League One, despite a mixed spell at Coventry.

But the question is do Pools really need him back?

Now before you throw this copy of the Mail on the fire or use a range of expletives to describe this writer, consider this.

Money is tight at the Vic.

No-one is trying to suggest otherwise and Ken Hodroft even went on record in his programme notes for the opening game of the season to say economics dictate who stays and who arrives at the clubs.

Dimi would command big wages after moving up to the Championship and certainly a lot more than he was earning during his previous spell with Pools.

If he did come back to Pools, it would most likely be on loan and Coventry are unlikely to be willing to cover his wages. It's not the case that Dimi is a youngster going out to gain first-team experience.

The Lord of the Central said he would take a pay cut to come to 'Pools

Even though it is year old, the last line of the article states that by signing ALB, we might save a bit of money ...... but nearly lose our place in League 1 as a result.

That's a point - I forgot all about us having allegedly done a deal for Hartley.
If that's our shopping list we're talking serious business, fookin' 'ell! It makes Martin Scottr's shopping list seem like a poundsaver deal.
Mind you we didn't need two goalies when Scooty was in charge.
