I was having a good chat about him with a Dundee United fan last week.

Apparently, Daly doesn't look out of place in the Scots Prem, and is one of their better players.

Now either the Scots Prem really is all that bad, or Daly has hidden talents which didn't show whilst at Pools.

Apart from the header at Cardiff and that week where he scored a few pens and tap-ins, I really can't remember doing owt worth noting. He sums up the word enigma for me.

I always thought that Daly would do the business if he was given a decent run,but in the finest tradition of Hartleppool he was written off by the fans before he got chance.
Scored 7 goals in a week & our fans reactions were "Bet he wont score any more" or "They were only tap ins & penalties"

Oh yes they were - and luckily for us because we were missing penalties like missing them was going out of fashion just then.

It all started when he pinched the ball off Matty against Posh and said gerrin' yer fucken bollocks.

Does anything else matter?? sctatchinghead

For that alone, in the biggest game in Pools history, I think he should be revered. Eifion is and so should Jon Daly. I don't remember anybody saying he was shite at the time.

Or is it more important to score against Darlo?? confised

I'm not saying Daly was shite or owt, just that he didn't really set the Vic on fire.

If you compare him to Boydy, they both went from Pools to clubs with similar infrastructures, probably on similar money, playing at a similar level.

Yet Daly wasn't fit to lace Boydys drinks in terms of his all round play. Maybe I didn't see him in enough games, but I just wan't convinced that he was great.

Daly scored 15 goals for Pools in 47 starts and 26 sub appearances, which is why I couldn't see why Dundee United forked out for him.

I hope he recovers and goes on to have a great career.
But it was definitely the right decision to let him go in my opinion.
I thought he was balls, personally, soft as anything and nowhere near as good in the air as some thought.
Sometimes we all need a kick up the arse to release our anger/motivation.
Maybe he's had that - because he certainly needed to get angry on the pitch and start putting himself about.
