Said to Dad on Friday before Cheltenham that I hoped that if we had somehow played poorly against Cheltenham (talk about fate!! ), the Hartlepool Mail wouldn't make an awful pun out of the bad show linking the game to the previous day's Gold Cup race, and get a headline like:

POOLS JUST NOT AT THE RACES.

Having been sent a clipping from Monday's Hartlepool Mail, I now realise how ironic those words were !!! rolfl clappp

I once saw the Czech Republic beat someone to qualify for the quarter finals I think of the 2004 Euros or the 2006 World Cup, and I thought that the News of the World would run the headline: CZECH MATE.

Next day, I opened the paper up to find the very same headline.

Similarly, should the Robins' home games be shown live, it could be

WHADDON YOU (switch off the television set & go do something more interesting instead)

(Only Children of the 70s & 80s need apply)

This must be the best of all time though POK when Caledonian Thistle beat Celtic 3-1 in 2000 and then John Barnes got sacked as manager of Celtic....

It just needs 'imagine my surprise' in there and it's a winner!

It's like that Dead Ringers impersonation of Alan Bennett where he says things like,

"Me and Thora Hird were sharing a pot of Earl Gray when I opened the newspaper and imagine my surprise when........".

I'm pretty sure when England won the 1966 World Cup the Times had a low-key headline on their sports page: "ENGLAND WIN"

You can't buy puns like that:! rolfl rolfl rolfl rolfl rolfl

Best football headline ever was when Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat Celtic,

It read..........

Super Cali go ballastic Celtic are atrocious.

We could have we following

French Toast

Czech's Bounced

Over and Kraut (next time we beat them)

If Nani of Man U sent off for a head butt...Nani goat

Portugal's Pepe has bad game Pepe Le Phew

Lassanna Diarra has bad game...diarra rhea

OOPS picture didnt show when I first posted my reply.

Any defeat or scoreless draw at Lincoln; Pools draw Sincil Blank, and of course any Leyton Orient fixture; Pools derail Orient express.
