By midday I will be on top of this as shown below and I am currently sorting my kit out very carefully.A wise ML once said to me; "don't f*** with the mountain, it will f**** you back much harder."

You wouldn't want it on your arse for a boil!

It's Skiddaw in the lakes, definitely a mountain although admittedly not Everest- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skiddaw
Either way, 3000 feet upwards can get chilly.

A mate of mine has decided that its a good idea for a group of us to go a wandering up it in midwinter. Seeing as two of the group are ex para reg there was no way that the rest of us (a mixture of ex Marines and Army) were going to refuse.

Daft I know but its got to be done.

Yes he's coming. We've given him a kit list (Hawaiian shirt, wet shorts and flip flops)

Give a bloke a wobbly floor, a blue uniform and a tin of grease, he'll be happy for hours.

I think the RAF get the best deal, the officers do the fighting, all you do is wave the daft fookers off.

If I come unstuck it won't be through a lack of preparation or incorrect kit. Mind you, this bergan is getting heavier, think I'll ditch the map and compass to lose weight.

It's heavy because he's got a 4x4 in the back of it.

Skiddaw was the name of a Deltic.
