Is Jim Provett anything to do with Pools anymore?

Wouldnt be surprised if Turner signed him since it was all down to him that he got his chance at first team football and all because of Turner that he saved them shots against Sheff Wed

I think he does football in the community type things.

Which is also because of Turner.

If it wasn't for Turner Provett wouldnt be alive, he made him, he is him, Turner is Provett, Provett is Turner!

What went wrong with Provett?

I remember him playing when I used to be able to get to see more matches than I do these days and he was a credible keeper with a good future...where did it all go wrong for him?

As a shot stopper he was fine but he was dodgy on crosses unfortunately. Having said that he was probably better than our current keepers

But who was the last keeper we had, who used to dominate his box on crosses etc?

I knew sume numpty would say Dimi.

Dimi never commanded his box as much as he should have, no where near!

I disagree. When Dimi had confidence in the back line he was probably the most commanding keeper that I have seen in a Pools shirt (probably even more so than Steve Harper). Yeah, he made mistakes like all keepers but 99% of the time when he come for a cross, he got to the ball

You hit the nail on the head WHEN HE HAD CONFIDENCE. Is that not what MadJohn said about provet. When any keeper has confidence then they are quality and do come for crosses.

I disagree with you so we will have to agree to disagree on this matter, but I dont recall Dimi coming for many crosses unless there was an empty box! Just look for the topic ALB and this is discussed in there. for his size, Dimi should have commanded his box a hell of a lot more than he did!, and he made far less than 99% of crosses.

Im not talking about Dimi having confidence in himself. What I said was that he was commanding when he had a bit of confidence in the defenders around him.

but if he was as good a keeper as everyone barks on about, why should he need to have confidence in the defenders around him to perform? Is this because he never had confidence in himself? So if he thought

"Well if i fcuk this up Nelse will bail me out?"

A good keeper should not need to feel confident in his defenders in order to have a good game!

Well I would just love it when Dimi comes back in January.

A great keeper. No need to slag him off in any way.

I am sure CT would love him back, and would put a few hundred on the first gate after he signs.

Fair comment, yes he is better than the tripe we have at the minute, but the way peole are talking, Dimi should have been playing at Man UTD. He was now way as good as people state, and that came to light in the latter part of his tenure here

If we did sign him in JAn then i agree a few more fans would reappear, but is it really worth going back? Like Dimi made it clear when he left, he was better than league 1 and Pools!

Now he has been sussed out, and he now wants to return! I wonder what people would say if the likes of Duffy Butler etc said they wanted to return to Pools

No. Everyone has said Dimi was a great keeper for us. Nobody entioned Manure. Nobody cares what happened after he left us.

Dimi was a great pools keeper, probably the best ever. He was also a crowd favourite, and we had faith in him, even when he made mistakes. Its great to see him back.

Is he back like?

Some people have short memories. Dimi left us because he wanted more money, and believed he was better than Pools and League 1. Now he wants to come back because he has been sussed out.

I wounder what you would say if Butler, Duffy etc decided they loved the vic and wanted to return

At this present time I would love to see Dimi back. But what i am saying is he left for much more money and thinking he was better than us (which leaves a bitter taste). Now he aint getting regular football in the championship he wants to return. Will he take a dip in wages to return?

I am not stating that he was a bad keeper, but i think people taking it to the extreme of Dimi was a legend is a bit extreme. Would you be saying this if we didnt sign the drivvel we currently have? I dont think so. If the two we currently have, had been half decent Dimi would not even be mentioned on here at this moment would he?

To be fair, if he didn't have ambitions above playing for Pools there'd be something wrong with him.

I'd be very happy if he came back

Dimi was a top class keeper. A good team starts with the keeper, if you have a decent one then your already half way there. To me its the most important position on the pitch.

To whoever seems to have a problem that he left us for a bigger club on more money-He tried to better himself, wanted to see if he could make it higher up and get into the National side. I dont blame him for having ambition and never will. Would be different if he was 38 or something but he was coming to his prime and I dont think any footballer wants to look back on his career and think "i really could have done better". He tried, it didnt work out for whatever reason and im sure when he does look back that he will be glad he tried.

Personally I think he would jump at the chance to return and have first team football.

I Thought Dimi was a bit dodgey on crosses, and had the worst kick i,ve ever seen on a keeper! now before you all go attempting cyber murder on me !! im not saying i wouldnt have him back and im not saying he wasnt a good goalkeeper, just a couple of my own observations thats all.

he came out and collected the vast majority of any high balls if my memory serves correctly - he could come through a crowded penalty area and be strong enough to claim the ball without getting knocked off balance. He had good reactions for a big man - some of the saves he made on that video by Mr Gaunt show how good a keeper he was for us.
I would have him back in goal tonight if it was possible.

We want Dimi!! We want Dimi!!!
