a back worse than my old dears yet he still clocked up 46 goals in 116 starts and 56 outings from the bench (as per stats from A Century of Poolies - PM me for a copy) and he come through the ranks the hard way - read about in ACOP.

I liked Hendo - he was an honest player who got where he did through shear graft and guts - he certainly wasn't naturally very gifted. He deserves admiration rather than criticism......

he scored a cracking overhead kick against York City. Almost did the same at Feethams - brought an outstanding save from the Darlo keeper....

No-one, not one person on this thread has claimed Hendo was a great player, not ONE, to one he was a hero
and to many others he was a decent player, who pulled his puds out for the club, never slated the fans and is more of man then you two will ever be

cult hero is a bit different from saying hero isn't it?

Hendo was off his time, he was what we needed back then.

He was a battering ram of a forward, he would chase every ball and take plenty of goals all game, he was like a lower league kevin davies.

He's also one of very few strikers in the last few years to get 20 goals in a season for us i believe (or just about 20)

I'm not saying he is a legend, a hero, a god, but at THE TIME i rated and liked him

FFS. All I have said is that he was no 'legend' or 'hero' IMO. I agree with Yubeps post above that he did a job at the time and gave his all BUT it is the craziness of saying such players are heroes which I disagree with. He got paid for playing football didnt he? He should have gave 100%. I would give 100% too if I played for HUFC.

I for one never said he was a 'hero', he wasn't...... and true, he could be justifiably classed as...OK. but you fail to grasp the main point, which is, in my opinion, ..... why denigrate the lad now, to what purpose?
