A pound will now buy you less than one Euro and it will probably continue to fall because of our low interest rates. Is it time to join and do away with the pound ?

Its time to join for sure. Only thing stopping us is the legion of little englanders, daily mail types and murdoch's press. I agree with eddie izzard, we cant be backside drivers with europe, we need to be shaping the future for the next generation. Instead we isolate ourselves and allign our country with america...and that works doesnt it banghead

The Euro is without any doubt the second most important currency in the world, arguably third if you include the Chinese Yuan. The pound is becoming less and less important, personally I think we should get rid and have Euros.

Agreed.

But there are too many people who think the person whos face is on our currency is more important than the worth of the note. I imagine mostly the sort of people who watch little dorrit and sing jerusalem. sigh

If theres light at the end of the tunnel its that the teenagers of today will one day be in control and will have a much more global viewpoint, we are a small country and need to be part of something bigger to have future success.

Too many people can't accept that we are a small country though. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if our currency was called Euro rather than Pound. We have got to realise we can't stand alone anymore.

international boundaries are artificial boundaries, the concept of countries is becoming less relevant in Europe. In mainland Europe it's no big deal to cross through various territories in a single train journey. The fact the UK is an island gives rise to a certain siege mentality, and historically that's understandable given the number of invasions and attempted invasions over the centuries - but surely that has now come to an end??? I'm not arsed what they do so long as I'm not worse off as a result. That's what is important, not pomp and ceremony. I couldn't care less where I live so long as I have good health and a decent lifestyle - although admittedly being able to watch Pools will always be a consideration!!!!!
