Whenever anything like this happens he pops up like Mr Punch and defends the indefensible..... I have noticed all the old pros pop up to defend the player as well like some tired old chorus. Te ex players turned media 'experts' think they have some inner insight into the game that us mere mortals are never going to know....BOLLOCKS of course!

A Loid agreeing with Poolies here. That elbow was a disgrace and he should be tried in a court of law for assault, because that is essentially what he did. No excuse.

Referee Dermot Gallagher has been removed from the match he was due to officiate on Saturday after his failure to send off Ben Thatcher.
Gallagher only showed the Manchester City defender a yellow card for his challenge on Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes.
He was due to officiate Bristol Rovers' League Two match with Shrewsbury.

A spokesman for the Professional Match Game Officials board told the Daily Mirror: "Dermot's been removed on the basis of his handling of the incident."
