And I said this before today's game. Recalling Sam Collins would be a mistake. Ben Clark and Nelse played excellent together with Liddle in midfield. I know Ritchie has struggled a little in recent weeks but to recall Matty in his place is/was surely a big mistake. Matty has been playing well but is never a left back and never will be. Now I don't know who made the errors today but we conceded four, which is simply not good enough.

we won't come up against their quality week in week out. They would be good enough to be at the top of the Championship this season with their squad, never mind League One.
Look at the strikers they've got - Becchio, Showunmi, Snodgrass, Beckford and Christie.
£10m of strikers there easy.
Then the midfield - Delph, Robinson (who left Swansea after they'd won the league - btw they got tubbed at Leeds last season), Prutton - all top quality players. They hit 5 past Northampton away from home, and they are a notoriously hard team to beat at their own ground.
I can't get too despondent about this - they'll stick four or possibly five past us at the Vic as well - and so will Leicester - we just have to get used to the fact we are not going to compete with their class.
It's the other teams we have to compete with, the likes of MK, Leicester, Leeds will prove too powerful over the season. Add Peterborough to that list - we'd have no chance of winning there right now so I'm glad we played them when we did.

I'm not too dispondent. I just feel Collins should have been left out.

I do agree with you that Nelson and Clark should have been left alone at the back just for today at least.

My philosophy has always been that if someone comes into the team and performs well.... they keep their place, Collins is not that good he can expect to get his place back automatically

it will be interesting to see what the team will be on Tuesday night - I have a feeling Humphreys will come back in at number three - or if Monkhouse hasn't performed well, maybe even Robson playing alongside Humphreys on the left side

To the fans who were there - how did Matty perform and was it right to drop Ritchie for this game?

antwi split nelson and clark up - called 'The Boys' inside the club the season they got promoted.

Collins came last season, steadied the ship and did a good job, but it doesn't look the same this year. Whatever the reason is i dont know but nelson and clark just click. simple really.

Collins has gone from immense (including the first couple of home games this season) to looking like a bag of nerves.
What has changed?

probably lost confidence in the players around him,so that in itself has had an adverse effect on him

I still say that any defender needs to have confidence in his goalkeeper.

We DO NOT have a decent keeper at the club. So the defenders, like the fans, are naturally nervous, whenever the keeper is called into action.

Until we get a decent keeper we will have a nervous defence.

If a new keeper appears, the central defence will improve, then maybe the full backs confidence will improve.....and so on.

I totally agree. I think ALB could be a reasonable backup keeper, But were lacking a good number one. Someone who'd come out claim the crosses and not flap at them, Give our back four confidence.
