But most of the films you've mentioned don't really tax the brain exactly do they? They're just very very good in a way TV rarely is.

No no, that was during when I did German A-Level and our teacher showed us it, absolutely superb film is as well.

If you were to ask our generation where East Germany was, they wouldn't know, because as far as they are concerned they think they only know Germany as being one one country on this earth like France (which always hasn't been) when in fact I was born when Germany reunified in 1990.

That film teaches you in a comic way how the Ossies hated the Wessies and so on.

You know what I think it is. I don't necessarily think that it's the old that are sentimental, it's the young because we bring up our children with the most basic, comically cheesy, but essentially good values.

NEVER SAY DIE is a one of those most basic, cheesy, essentially good values but is is an inspirational value to have at Pools and long may it continue !

It's like the kids at the performing arts school are all there because they dream of the bright lights and one of the clearest, cheesiest, essentially good values was when a female character said in BH

"I'm not giving up !"

It's the truth, you know.

It just boils down to a case of whether you believe in things like BH.

I believe.

I don't know about you, though.

Do you believe ?

We teach our children those essentially good, even if they sound cheesy valuiues, of not to ever give hope, stand tall, and my personal favourite, don't listen to anyone else when they disagree with your opinion, because we hope to bring our children up to be good people, so that the good people on this earth can defeat the bad, which is especially important at this time of heightened national security.

Now even though I believe in these basic values, I am not as per say a religious man, the last time I went to a church was my uncle's worlding almost two years ago, but I still believe that good should, will and must defeat evil.

Programmes from America or how the Americans speak often sounds cheesy to us British because they are a God-fearing country founded on religion, the only country in the world I think where faith can actually determine who will be the next President.

You "believe" in BH?

I think I know why you think your classmate who couldn't read and write was bright as a button.

You went to special school, didn't you.

No, I meant I believe in the basic values that are handed down from parent to child, not in BH necessarily.

If you're saying that it's good to bring kids up to 'dream of the bright lights', tho, that's a big difference between you and me. Naturally all performers want to be successful, but surely they should aim to be good at their trade, first and foremost.
I don't like talent shows where audiences are encouraged to scream and applaud 3rd rate 'talents', nor do I want to watch 'talents' who should be putting in a good bit of extra work before flaunting themselves on telly :coool:

I agree with Mr Ripper.
We didn't have dyslexia when I was at school. Why? Because if we spelt something wrong we got rapped across the knuckles. Yes!
And it was the same with colour blindness. That was just a made up thing for avoiding national service. Chuck a bucket of acid over someone every time he says red instead of green and you'll see how quickly he learns the difference.
And the same goes for tone deaf singers. Forty lashes with a cat o' nine tails every time they sing a duff note and I bet they soon start singing in tune!

What a soft society we have become. It boils my lymph!!

What exactly is Britannia high? I hope it's not supposed to be the name of a BRITISH school.

You'd better come up with a photo proving the school is actually called "The Britannia High School of Origami Studies" or similar, or else henceforth you're going to be branded an American lapdog on here!

What I want to know is why they use a word like dyslexia to describe learning difficulties.

They could used something easier for people with it.
