...a better goalscorer from the wing than he is from the central striker position?

When you see the goal from last night you'll find it certainly wasn't from the right wing!! I'd say no, he's better down the middle. He's scored 4 of his 7 goals this season up front as well so I'd say no.

I think he'd much rather be playing up front with Kyle, he looked a frustrated figure on the wing at times last night.

through the middle all the way.

On the wing he'll get about 13/14 this season, upfront you could see him hitting 20.

very simply put, it depends if we can keep Kyle.

I prefer Brown up front rather than the wing, but with Kyle & Porter there we look unstoppable at times. and with Brown attacking from the wing gives us many more options

Porter looks a much better player with Kyle along-side him, and with us being weak on the right - Brown fits that job well - so we get to play all 3 without going to 4 - 3 - 3 (which just doesn't work).

the team has to come before JB's goal tally for sure, and Brown will get stuck in and do a job for the team and chip in with the goals when the chances present themselves. Like MJ said, Monkhouse and Brown quite often get into goalscoring positions because of their attacking instincts, and both bag their fair share. All the forwards at Pools have good football brains and the ability to see what's coming next, and to be able to read what someone like Porter is going to do they will more often than not be the ones benefitting from Porter's unselfish play. Porter twists and turns and plays little passes in behind the back line for precisely people like Monkhouse and Brown. If the ball is played high into the opposition penalty area we now have Kyle who looks tremendous coming in at the back post, either to head at goal or to put a knockdown into the goalmouth. Long may it continue.

We may not realise it now, but Joel Porter is probably one of the best players ever to pull on a Pools shirt.

He does his fair share of teapotting and isn't brilliant in every game, but I can't remember a pure footballer like him (with the exception of Pedersen) at Pools.

Adam Boyd with Joel Porter was legendary. Without him he's still a very good player but pulling up any trees.

i realised it when he came on as a sub against Sunderland in the Cup a few year back. His vision is of championship/premiership class.

He is my favourite Pools player ever

they've more or less conceded that Porter is the first name down on the teamsheet.
Somebody suggested Porter had a "mare" at Carlisle. I watched the highlights and he was at the hub of every good move, and his control, turning and passing on the move were high quality as always.
Maybe by "mare" they meant he wasn't tearing defences inside out for the full 90 minutes

Some folks don't seem to actually understand what they are looking at, despite the fact they are actually there!! I wish I could remember who said it......................but if those clips are of a player having a "mare" I'd like to see him turn on the style!!!!

The sign of a good player is to recognise when to conserve energy and not run after every lost cause (a la Proctor), because he is actually reading the game and using intelligence.

nah it wasn't chip who said it.........it's the definition of a "mare" - now that's the type of performance Foley puts in (a mare) - but I've never seen Porter have a "mare" and I refuse to believe he did on Tuesday given the highlights I watched.
For his standards (and that is the key -HIS standards as opposed to bog standard League One striker) he may not have been at his best. That though does not constitute a "mare"
