Good article, saying its on its way out, not working in this country.

I wonder how it works at Pools compared to the clubs mentioned in the press recently like Spurs and Newcastle.

Never been a big fan of it myself.

i think if it is done correctly it is a good thing as it allows the manager to concentrate on the players more. from what i can gather wilson is in charge completely. turner does some of his leg work during transfers eg wilson says i want rooney and ronaldo so turner then takes over and does all the bargaining etc. im sure turner gives his opinions but it is ultimately up to wilson. turner is more of a go-between for wilson and hodcroft.

i think our version of it works well and the main reason for that is the good working relationship turner and wilson have together

We don't have a director of football. IOR have a director of sport.

Your splitting hairs Richard, the role is similar no matter what fancy title you give it, director of football or sport or whatever....

Loads of good valid points in that article about why it works and why it doesn't in the UK.

if it works at Pools isn't it because turner was there first and must have had a hand in picking wilson.wilson therefore has to accept the limits of his job. If turner had come in after and started dictating the odds it would have been a different story

I was told Turner was instrumental in Wilson’s appointment, true or not? They have a good working relationship.

The only question l would ask? How can Hufc as a club afford a director of sport as well as a manager?

Turner doesn't work directly for Pools, he works for IOR as Director of Sport. The club doesn't carry his salary, IOR do. The difference is important.

Maybe it's turned out that way. I really don't know what his true role is. But when he was appointed I remember Hodcroft saying it was more or less one of minding the shop...

...apart from looking after all IOR's other sporting concerns of course - basketball, female mud wrestling, etc.
