I don't like them either. I'm sure one of their Chicken Bakes made me sick once.

Well, I'm just saying I don't like them either - so you're not the only human being not to like them.

I lived in the town until I was 19 so feel qualified to answer - Greggs stuff is crap now.

A corned beef pastie from Greggs used to actually hold firm in your grip. The last one I bought sort of folded in the middle, and there was hardly any red colour to the contents - when you buy a corned beef pastie you expect it to contain a good amount of dog, but over the years they've got away with less and less meat and more tatie.

I've found that local bakeries do the best pies/pasties, and even if they are a bit dearer than the mass-produced shite from Greggs I'll pay the extra any day.

Down here greggs have stopped selling corned beef pasties which sealed it for me. For the last year or so haven't touched owt out of Greggs, it's independent local bakers for me every time.

Mitchell's at Norton - very few pies compare to these.
Packed full with chunks of lean meat - no slush or gravy to fill these up. Chicken, beef and the pork with apple(open lid) ones are superb-a-mundo.
It's even worth driving through there if you fancy a pie, because why have a second rate pie when you can have these?

Do you reckon the Greggs stuff in Hartlepool is worse than their stuff elsewhere then?

No, it's been crap down here for years now as well. And they've stopped selling corned beef pasties in many parts of the country.

I reckon it will be the same shite all over the country. refred

I too think local bakers do a better job and value for money (most of the time).

I will look out for that Norton place sounds good.

near the NatWest bank near the duck pond (opposite side to the duck pond). You can park right outside the shop, or else outside the bank.
These pies are the business!!!

If you're ever in Frodsham Sue Coward's home made pies from Coward's the Butchers on Main Street are the best in the world. They don't sell shoulder cuts cos thats what they put in the pies, none of those testicles or eyeballs they put in the mass produced ones. I introduced Coward's pork pies to the Chelsea Flower Show but didn't share them with all those southern gits
