Pools star off to Rotherham?

ON HIS WAY? Richard Barker

« Previous « PreviousNext » Next »View GalleryADVERTISEMENTPublished Date: 02 October 2008
HARTLEPOOL United striker Richard Barker is being persued once again by his former club
Rotherham United.
Reports suggest talks have taken place between the two clubs and Rotherham want the 33-year-old back in time for Saturday's home game with Grimsby Town.

Millers' manager Mark Robins was asked about the club's pursuit of the striker at last night's Millers Trust Fans' Forum but he revealed nothing.

However, it is believed that the bid to sign Barker - which began in the close season - has stiffened again after Pools signed Kevin Kyle on a month's loan and sources reckon that he is on his way back to the Millers.

If so, Robins will want him in ahead of Saturday's game. It would have to be a loan signing, almost certainly with a view to a permanent move which could only be completed come January.

Barker, who hails from Rotherham and was at a recent home game, followed his time at Rotherham with a successful and prolific spell at Mansfield before joining Danny Wilson at Hartlepool where he was the club's top scorer last season.

Pools never wasted no time in sorting out they had one striker to many with Kevin Kyle signing, football is ruthless.

He'll do well, Richie Barker is a great 4th division centre forward.

To be honest i dont mind Barker coming on at away games with 20 mins to go because he can win headers and make a nuisance of himself

agreed - possibly this season has been one year too far at the third tier, but he may have a year or two left in League Two.
Great signing for us in the promotion season, in fact I'd go as far as to say he and Monkhouse sparked us off.

Without his goals and foward play I just don't think we would have got promoted, he added a spark to our attack.

Your right too a rest last season would have done him the world of good.

Often made an escaped goat by fans, which i feel was unfair, as he did his job.

I reckon if you strapped him to an electric chair and switched the power on to full, and the only way it would stop was if he said, "Sorry," I reckon the leccy bill would be so high we would get cut off before he said it!!!

Not many people would, tho but, Just. :coool:
Anyway, I think Mr Barker is a star. He was just about worked into the ground by his manager and he never once stopped trying to respond as best as he was able
