First gig

Inspiral Carpets, The Frank & Walters, Airhead. Middlesbrough Town Hall (93 I think). Brilliant. Blown away by The Frank & Walters. My favourite band of all time now and i'm mates with Ashley Keating, the drummer!

Best gig

I would say Morrissey at the Borough Hall as I grew up on the Headland, I've performed on that stage and it was surreal to see him there. However...
Jens Lekman at The Cluny this year. Comfortable attendence. Crowd participation. Almost like a stand up comedy gig in parts. Beautiful songs. Did not want it to end. I urge every man and woman alive to check him out both live and his recordings.

Worst gig. Prince Rama of Ayodhya at Stockton Riverside Festival this year. I was sure this was a joke. Utter rubbish!!!

Not done anything embarrasing to my knowledge. Not at a gig anyway.

Worst thing worn? I always look cool, baby!

First Gig - Johnny Kid and The pirates- The Rink Hartlepool Circa 1963/64
Best/Most Memorable - Stones The Cockpit, Hyde park 1968ish.
Worst Gig - Sorry but most of the guitar thrash indie stuff that supports our Paul.
Embarassing Thing - Took my shirt off to dance at a gig on Eel Pie Island and was encouraged to put it on again.
Most embarrasing Clothes - That bloody Kaftan

what was your best gig? The Verve, V98 Festival........err 1998!!
what was the worst? Jesus Jones, Middlesbrough Town Hall.....the year escapes me.. i remember Mike Edwards forgetting the lyrics to 'Welcome Back Victoria', asking the crowd to sing the beginning of it to him (which we did) then he finished it!!
whats the most embarrassing thing you've ever done at a gig? Falling over whilst getting a bit carried away during Green Days set, and having what seemed like thousands take the piss out of me, again @ V98!
whats the most embarrassing clobber you've worn at a gig??! My ridiculous 22" flares, and standard issue baggy top, at the Happy Mondays gig, as was the norm in those days! :coool:

Yes Mr Salt Kaiser Cheifs were pretty poor bu then they never had any songs to start with. Chunky loud rubbish.

First gig : Family and America at Stockton ABC
Best gig : Longpigs at Rock City Nottingham-They'd been rehearsing for a tour at Rock and decided to chuck some tickets out for 'one night only.' Brilliant.
Worst gig : Stone Roses at Reading Festival, truly truly awful. 30,000 people turned and made Underworld famous instead.
Most embarrassing thing : Fell asleep in a puddle at Reading during Nirvana after carefully pulling a newspaper over me.
Worst thing worn : Ocelot print spandex dress and no keks. These lasses found a small hole in the seam and the rest is history.

It was sometime between September 1990 and June 1992 cos I was there, and it was whilst I was at Brinky. Seem to remember it being winter for some reason. Soho supported them didn't they?

I saw the same gig on the Nottingham leg of the tour. Soho indeed DID have only 15 minutes of fame.

what was your first gig? I saw many local bands mostly playing covers the first proper band I saw, Like Spender, was Family in my case at the Royal Festival Hall, London.
what was your best gig? 2 stand out for me - the first Alice Cooper, supported by Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come supported by Roger Ruskin Spear's Kinetic Wardrobe all 3 acts were quite brilliant the other, me standing in on synth with Hawkwind at the Watchfield free festival.
what was the worst? Quintesscence - I'd only gone to see the support band who didn't turn up.
whats the most embarrassing thing you've ever done at a gig? Fell asleep during a Deep Purple gig, also did the same during a Budgie gig - 2 of the loudest bands around. They were both sitting down gigs and that's my excuse. :uhoh:
whats the most embarrassing clobber you've worn at a gig??! I wore one of my at the time girlfriends dresses over my jeans and tee shirt at a Roxy Music gig - I really don't know why :uhoh:

Drunkenly got on the train home from the Boro, woke up in Northallerton. Oh how we laughed....
whats the most embarrassing clobber you've worn at a gig??!
Paul Weller T-shirt, I didn't have a carrier bag so I had to put it on new.

what was your first gig? Ride supported by Verve at Boro Town Hall in 1991. I missed the number 10 and had to get the 227 which went took ages as it went through Stockton and so missed Verve...bugger!
what was your best gig? Toss up between The Orb at Nottingham Rescue Rooms earlier this year, and the Skatalites at Rescue Rooms last year.
what was the worst? Probably Metalheadz (Goldie) at Glastonbury in the mid-nineties. Started off alright, plenty of sub bass etc, then descended into beatless jazzy wank electronic shit.
whats the most embarrassing thing you've ever done at a gig? I was 'not all there' at a Lee Perry gig, and I saw a former lecturer of mine from years back who had started cohabiting with a lass off my course whom I had previous carnal knowledge of. Completely uninhibited, my conversation about her got a bit more personal than he was comfortable with.
whats the most embarrassing clobber you've worn at a gig??! Luminous things at the 'raves' at Glastonbury.

First gig - Poison Girls at Boro town hall 1982 (2nd was Crass at the same venue a couple of weeks later)
Best Gig - The Waterboys at Newcastle city hall 1989 on the Fishermans Blues tour
Worst gig - Seen some stinkers, but I guess the worst is a toss up between Spear of Destiny at The Studio in 1999 or Mike Peters (of The Alarm) at Hartlepool town hall around 1997
Most embarrassing moment - Sat in the back row of the Zenith in Paris watching Eric Clapton with a reasonably new girlfriend I decided to go to the br & instead of shuufling along the row I just leapt over the back of my seat to discover that the floor was another 5 feet downwards & land in a heap.
Most embarrassing clobber - Mortuary technicians shirt with real blood stains from post mortems that I nicked from the mortuary at Boro general hospital

what was your first gig?
playing with a heavy rock band called 'Temple' in 1978 co-headlining with The Lip Moves (most of whom later became the magnificent 'Games To Avoid' before Simon Vincent went on to Stitched Back Foot Airman). I didn't really know what heavy rock was, but it was my first opportunity to be in a band!

what was your best gig?
Cardiacs at the Marquee in about 1986. Up until that point I'd thought that Bad Tune Men were the best live band around but Cardiacs (with a 7 strong line-up at that time) were simply awesome - musically, theatrically, rhythmically, rapport with the audience etc etc To top it off, we stayed behind after the gig and picked up more £1 coins which had fallen out of people's pockets in the 'mosh-pit' than we had paid to get in.

what was the worst?
The Arteks at a pub (whose name I forget) near the Itchen Bridge in Southampton in 1981. The landlord kept asking the band to turn the volume down because punters were being driven away, to the point where the band gave up playing because the volume was getting so low.

whats the most embarrassing thing you've ever done at a gig?
While jumping up and down rather a lot, I lost balance and fell on top of my keyboards, coming very close to going off the front of the stage together with them - just about managed to retrieve the situation after some farcical wriggling to retrieve my balance

whats the most embarrassing clobber you've worn at a gig??!
most of the stuff I wore embarrassed the others in Bad Tune Men member but I didn't care!

Ed, did you see that one of the Cardiacs has recently had a heart attack & their tour has been cancelled. I know it's a serious matter but due to the bands name I did have to laugh - hope he's better soon, like.

Hawklord - yes I was aware of Tim Smith's illness & the irony has been noted on the Cardiacs' official site. A very talented guy. We're not ready to lose him yet.
