... "is to miss England's World Cup qualifiers in September as he requires a groin operation."

And I bet I'm not the only one who thought "so fooking what" when I read that headline.

Leave likkle 'Stevie G' alone, he the best player in Europe maaaannnnn!!

Judging by the way Liverggpooooollllaaarrr huffed and puffed their way through a play off to get into the cash cup last night, Real Madrid won't be rushing to bin dipper land just yet for his signature.......

I read it and i thought thank god for that!

Now all we need is a wee injury to Lampard, nothing serious, i don't wish him any harm, just a little knock.

Then let's put in some midfielders who warrant a start and who play for the shirt, Hargreaves, Barry, Joe Cole etc.

Until we get rid of the Stevie G element from this England team we will never ever progress.

If people on here seriously think that Steven Gerrard is not an extremely talented footballer, then I can no longer take their opinions as serious.

There are footballers who I despise, such as C. Ronaldo, but it cannot be desputed that he is a massively talented footballer.

I understand people don't like the premiership and I can understand that some people just don't like some footballers for whatever reason, but if that acknowledgement cannot be made, then your opionions are flawed.

Much better mate.

I don't even watch England games anymore but I do watch Premiership ones. I watch European ones on Sky and Setanta. I watch the SPL, (which isn't as bad a league as some make it out to be). I just love football and can appreciate match winning players who have a huge influence on practically every game they play for their clubs.

I'll step off the soap-box now!

OK, can I downgrade my comment

Clearly he isn't "shite". Scott Sloan was shite. Steven Gerrard is merely one of the most over-rated stars of the modern game. I must have seen him play for England dozens of times and I have yet to see him have a real standout game against anything other than the most risible of opponents (e.g. Andorra). He seems incapable of dominating a midfield at international level. Less forgivably, he also seems incapable of passing the ball to a teammate with reasonable regularity. If an international team can not keep possession of a football they will not win many games, and Gerrard squanders possession more often than most other international midfielders I have seen. All of this would be fine if people didn't keep describing the bloke as one of the best players on the planet. He quite clearly is not that.

Is that better?

I don't think anyone can argue with that Mad John, he's over rated as are most of the England team. That's why most people have the perception that we under achieve at international level. The likes of Lampard, Rooney (especially Rooney) and 'Stevie G' are nowhere near as good as they and other people think they are.

14/15th in the Fifa world rankings is where we should be given the players we have at our disposal.

I didn't suggest he was shite (though I might have). I just said I don't fookin' care.

Overrated by SKY TV more than owt else.

What many people fail to realise when Sky are banging on about how great these players are they are essentially advertising their product for which they've invested many millions of pounds.

They're hardly gonna say how crap these players are so that people don't subscribe.

None of the premiershit players are crap, obviously, otherwise they wouldn't earn what they do. They're just not as good as they like to think or Sky try and make out.

I loved Roger Dallaglio's comment on the premiership (although I'm sure it was a scripted line).

Jeremy Clarkson said "you lot (rugby forwards) tear into each other like tanks while that baby boy from Manchester United falls over if you as much as give him a black look."

To which Roger replies "well we call it the Andrex league because it's soft and overpriced"

What I find difficult to understand is there are a lot of people who despise the premiership and, for that reason, never watch it.
Now everybody is entitled to an opinion but I don't see how an opinion can be formed on a premiership player on that basis.
As for England, we are just not good enough on the World stage.
Gerrard is a talented footballer, as is Lampard, but for England they seem to leave their club form behind them. There must be a reason for that. Maybe the reason is that they are just not good enough to step up, but they are selected based on their club form.
They are consistently good in one of the country's top four teams and I have no doubt that England couldn't compete with those four teams.

I watched some premiership manager being interviewed last Saturday and complaining that a goal his side had let in was a "lower league" goal. Now that boiled my piss.
