Paper thin, maybe, but on crowds of 3800 you can hardly blame Hodcroft for not spending money.

I was very worried by the size of yesterdays crowd, what is more worrying is how many of those 3800 actually paid cash at the turnstiles.

However, on the bright side, a cracking performance with four good goals is the perfect way to start tempting people back.

Does anyone know if Ripper was there? He hasn't posted since Friday afternoon, and as we all know he was 'undecided' about being there. Maybe there are several hundred others like him, and he wasn't the 'lone voice' in protest at the perceived injustice of the season ticket offer.

Lowest crowd in League One yesterday.

With the media telling everybody that they are short of money, something like football will be one of the first thing people give up.

Add to that only two new signings and Colchester being an uninspiring opponents, recently relegated they maybe, but to a floater they are not a big draw, I can sort of understand why the crowd was low.

It's a shame that with clubs like Luton, Rotherham and Bournemouth all lurching from one financial disaster to the next, the people of Hartlepool can't support the club and owners a little more. Bournemouth had 5700 yesterday, do we need to go into administration before people will come out and support the club?

Yes IOR are a profitable business, but that doesn't mean they should or even will bankroll Pools forever.

A kid and his mate asked me for the score just outside of Vue on my way back to the car, clearly interested, but instead of being there they had been to the cinema in their Man United shirts.

ALB - 6. Had little to do. One great save. Still leaves more questions than asnwers though. Some of his kicking was poor.

Sweeney - 8. Is he the answer? He did pretty good yesterday. Great pace at fullback. And he can head the ball.

Nelson - 8. Very good as well. Even allowing for an early booking. Back to his best?

Colins - 8. Actually missed a sitter. Very strong though, seems a great captain.

Humphreys - 8. A pleasure to watch. Him and Monkhouse are just superb together.

Jones - 7. I actually thought he was the weak link first half. After his well taken goal his confidence grew. Him and Sweeney will need time to develop. A great inteview afterwards.

Boland - 8.5. Thats the Boland that played for us in his first season. An what a goal.

Liddle - 7. Not at his best, missed a real sitter in the first minute. but still good enough.

Monkhouse - 7.5. To think there are actually some of you muppets that said he didnt deserve his start. Well if you didnt see what he gave us yesterday I think you should stop watching. We also got a glimse of how much poorer we are when he isnt on the pitch. and he wasnt even at his best. Lets hope our coach doesnt fall out with him again. Won the header for the first goal as well.

Porter - 7.5. Joel wasnt at HIS best either. Got better as the game wore on. Deserved a goal. Him and Brown are our only real threat upfront. I shudder to think what will happen if either, or worse, both, get injured.

Brown - 9 MOM. What can you say? He wont be here long enough for us to all the points we can out of him. Quite possibly, already, the greatest talent we have ever had.

Foley - 5. He got on....as usual. He didnt open his stride to sprint when he had the opportunity.....as usual. He had one run with the ball, ran into a cul-de-sac and got out muscled.....as usual. Nothing has changed. Nothing at all.

Robson - 5. Managed to give the ball away twice when under no pressure. Another substitution that only highlighted how good the player taken off is.

Barker - 6. Not on long enough to actually do much.

Wilson - 8. He would have got a nine, but for his substitutions. Why the hell didnt he put Power on? It was the ideal situation to introduce him to everyone. But no, he preferred to reintroduce to the what we already know. But at least Wilson picked the right side, for a change. Maybe he HAS learnt? We will see.

You would have had to have been blind, deaf and dumb, not to notice the lift THAT team gave the crowd when it was announced.

The Crowd. 7. A decent atmosphere only going flat after the substitutions. But 3800? though.........It seems there are a lot of people that have lost the faith.

The link up play between the midfielders and the strikers was a joy to watch.........compare that to last season.........I still have to ask why?

Sweeney and Jones linked up well, and hopefully will get an even better understanding. Ritchie and Monky were back to their best on the other side. The defence was clearly more solid. The two strikers caused chaos all game.

I am not convinced on the keeper. Infact yesterdays performance actually masked any issues with the keeper.

The substitutions just highlighted how painfully short of players we are. When all three were on, it was like watching a completely different side. I shudder to think what will happen if Monkhouse, Brown and Porter were all injured.

We have cover at Full back, Cover in Midfield, but we have no such cover for those three. Our season will rest on their fitness.

I thought some of Hodcrfoft comments were alarming as well.

But overall ADG is happy this morning.

Very good ratings there adg, you obviously attended the game! I dont think Monkey quite deserved 7.5 mind. 7 maybe. By his standards I thought he was pretty average.

Matty Robson made me laugh, within 60 seconds of being on the pitch he cocked up twice, oh, and I still cant believe Foley got a contract!

Boland was class, back to his very best, his workrate was phenomenal.

If only Danny Wilson could see what happens when you play the best players in their best positions (and I actually think Sweeney makes a half decent right back at this level)

the crowd is a worrying statistic from yesterday, but if DW picks that line up week in week out, then people will come back to watch - yesterday was entertaining and Pools looked very strong. If the team can keep up those standards then we'll have nothing to worry about.

Seeing as though I hadn't paid in advance with a season ticket I took the wife to the carnival instead. She likes going to see the parade and stuff and as I've always told her "tough" when I've had a season ticket I decided to take her there instead of going to the match yesterday.

And there was quite a few people wearing Pools tops in attendance over there obviously not at the match either (old ones and new ones Mr Tree!).

I'm pleased that we won but don't feel too bothered about missing it either to be honest. I am planning on going to the cup game on Tuesday night though and if we're playing well I'll go to other games when they don't clash with family stuff. I've decided that family stuff is more important than Pools nowadays rather than the other way around as I've previously looked at it.

Call me selfish but I'd not give up my Saturday afternoon at pools for nowt. Plenty of time for the family during the week and we need as much support as possible at the moment. This town Pisses me off with the pathetic support of the only worthwhile enjoyment in the town and ior must despair at the apathy shown by people in this town towards the football club. And people moan about lack of new signings and poor season ticket offers stpid

It makes me chuckle too. I saw a bloke with a Man Utd top with Ronaldo on the back at Fens shops today. Even the Man Utd fans hate the little fecker now!

Thousands of football fans in this town. Just need to lure them in!

Pools at their peak 2003-05 were getting near and around 5400 of fheir own fans at games , Thats about our max supportI think. Unless we got a sugar daddy in who spent money like there was no tomorrow and we went 10 points clear at the top of div 2 won the title and got promoted from div 1 as well as tapping into support from the colliery areas ( which we could of done when Sunderland were s*it ) and letting potential new fans in for mickey mouse and carling cup matces on the cheap occasionally ,we could possibly push that up to 6500.

Pools are a small club ( no one disputes that) I just think that the way the club conducts their business sometimes , they make themselves out to be even smaller than they are. For example the logo " The towns club" is an example of this. Sunderland are not " The cities club" they think of themselves as a regional powerhouse in terms of support. The towns club alienated supporters from the collieries etc, many of whom are potential pools supporters.

THE HEADLAND CARNIVAL IS THE SINGLE WORST THING IN THE WORLD EVER!

If people from the headland are so proud to live up there, and we're all scum cos we don't, cut it off just after rovers and float it out too see, you can all live happily ever after on your own and we wont trouble you and you cant trouble us.

People at the headland love it though phil, they think it's better than vegas, the single greatest day in the history of the world.

My mate has recently moved there and they have converted him, if someone told him they started the carny to celebrate jesus being born there he would believe it was true.

I'd hardly call a Headland pub crawl (even with it's now reduced number of pubs) being under the thumb!

I thought that the lager was reasonably priced and that there was more entertainment laughing at the clip of the chavs than there was on the actual parade, although the parade only lasted about 15 minutes so we weren't out of the pub for too long.
