Wilson has actually said that he always saw him as a central striker in the future, but felt he needed to develop physically to be able to cope, whereas playing him wide-right meant he was given time to do so and not harm his future development.

But don't let the truth get in the way of slagging off Wilson...

The season hasn't even started yet & We're tearing up everything he says already.
Everyone was calling for Wilsons head around Christmas comparing it to Scotts season in charge,
Scott was sacked & Pool went down, Wilson was kept and Pools stayed up .

Nothing at all has changed....he got rid of some players....he's got 2 new Centre Midfielders (now we've got about 8 on the books)....and we've kept players on who aren't even lower 3rd Division/Conference/Sunday league level!!!! confised

But I can't wait for the season to start with this buffoon in charge!!!! confised

Like it or lump it Danny Wilson is the manager for the forseeable. That ain't gonna change for the next few months so slagging him off ad nauseum is frankly incredibly boring.

Yes last season was a complete debacle but the promtion season wasn't. Generally teams look to consolidate after a promotion whereas us spoilt lot expect promotion each and every season. There has been strife behind the scenes too with the rumours of Monkhouse et al and a suspicion that Wilson is being undermined by various people.

We're good enough to replicate last season finishing position at worst, with a following wind we can do better. One things for sure, a negative crowd will do nothing to help improve the performances.

Also, whats to say Wilson hasn't got it spot on with the treatment of Brown? Obviously we'll never know but he seems to be maturing well and w ehave far greater concerns than whether he should have been upfront last season

I don't disagree that some of the selections were mind boggling last season but we are where we are and he's going to be given at least the first few months of the new season. You never know, he might suprise us all.

all this bollox is getting on my man breasts.

Wilson is in charge like it or lump it! the season starts next weekend and some players read this board. why cant we all just move on and SUPPORT our fcuking team. If it is going tits up after 6-8 weeks then fair play slag Wilson to the hilt, but with the season approaching lets get behind the lads and hope for a good season.

IF we stay up again it will be a good season, because top and bottom line we are not good enough yet for the championship. Obviously we need to improve on our position last season but staying in league 1 again will suit me.

Yeah I want to see progress, but there is making progress and going beond your limits. If we were to go up it would be too soon, far too soon and we would have a shocking year next season. Finish just outside the playoffs this season and then look at a playoff finish or higher next season. that would be steady progress and the best way forward

My definition of progress is simple: concede 20% fewer goals (without scoring 20% fewer obviously).

Said like that it doesn't sound THAT big an ask, does it?

I've said it before and i'll say it again.....that this is our level.....Pools are never going to establish themselves as a Championship side, the fanbase just isnt there for starters.

Staying in League One is, for me, success. Maybe with a bit of a cup run. Maybe flirting with the play offs from time to time. I think it's time some folk started to realise that we are NOT in a position to compete with the Leeds Uniteds and Leicester Citys of this league, never will be.

We can only dream of our manager (whatever manager), having the kind of funds available to strengthen the squad that some of our competitors do, so why therefore do you all expect us to be challenging at the top of the table every fookin season?

And i agree that all this anti Wilson diatribe is making this board extremely dull

But Mr.Bandage no-one has said that we should establish ourselves as a Championship side!!!! confised confised

The squad on paper last season for me was good enough for a push at the Play-Offs....but then Wilsoon decided to feck about with the Team from day 1 of the season!!!! banghead banghead banghead

And also....it wasn't that long ago we were only 8 minutes from the Championship!!!!

is it wrong for me to have almost given up being arsed, on account of the prospect of dull football?

I'll admit this is the least optimistic I've been for ten years.
I'm just hoping we might be one of those teams that randomly comes good and takes the world by storm, like Luton did in the season we were at Cardiff. But it's a hope, not a belief.

All of these people who are saying this is the least they have been interested in for ages. Is it worse than the season we went down and were facing 4th tier football?

No, loyal blue. There's nothing wrong with 4th tier football, and in any case I was quite optimistic about our chances of coming straight back up.

But I didn't say I wasn't interested, just not very hopeful.

In short, yes.

Understandably low-key expectations for the next nine months. (shrug)

It's a hell of a long time since we used to say that about every coming season.
Still, I suppose having low key expectations in div 3 is a bit better than having them in div 4.
Anyhow, expectations is all they are for the moment. The reality is still to be uncovered.

Imagine being a team like Fulham or Bolton and knowing that low expectations will ALWAYS be your lot whatever you do and however much you overachieve. Teams like that are never going to have an outstanding league campaign (unless they get relegated first or unless their supporters take some weird pride in finishing 10th in a league in which they're only making up the numbers).

Good points made Mr Tait....

We don't have the fanbase or the resources to compete in the Championship. Would love to see Pools there like - and we have had some good perfomances against stronger ex-Championship teams (away to Leeds last year, even though we lost, we played well).

Also, knocking Wilson and the team before a ball has been kicked is an easy thing to do - Sometimes it feels like there's some fans who peversely would just like to see the club fail. We all know it's going to be a tough season. Teams such as Leicester, that have come down are well supported and have more cash to splash with the likes of Mandaric. This can also be said for certain League 1 teams from last season.

With a bit luck  , we might have a chance of maybe mid-table to last of the play-off spots. Maybe.
