At this precise moment, we have a major relaying of York Road going on with it closed between Lister Street and Park Road. While this work goes on a detour is placed in position to take traffic down Burn Road towards Mcdonald's roundabout.

So what do the council do today Put cones out on Burn Road just passed Stranton meaning more traffic congestion and basically no other direction to go.

And to make matters worse York Road is closed for approx 3 months from June (so about late Sept/Oct before open) The roadworks at Burn Road/ A689 will last for various dates for approx 16 weeks, while a filter lane is built.

Expect some stand still traffic on many days. Im glad I dont drive.

Yeah, but it'll all have to be done now so that it is finished in time for the Tall Ships Race.

I thought it was Tesco that was doing that bit of the road, Rather than the council?

Can imagine it'll be a nightmare down there come 9am and 5pm

The Burn Road bit is part of the planning permission for Tesco's extension.

Buggered if I know what York Road is all about, unless it is to do with services for the health centre which Carillion are knocking up on the old Barlow's / York Flats site.

You might be right, it's nowt to do with the new Health Centre.

Although why they'd need 4 months to sort out electric cables is beyond me, there's gotta be more to it than that? sctatchinghead

I was walking along there today and they have started putting in kerbstones which will significantly narrow the road.I think that they may have a one way system in mind........if it isn't god knows how 2 buses are going to pass each other thrilled thrilled

Here's a list of all of the streetworks going on at the minute, although the details for York Road are a little sketchy...

Last week there were cones on Mainsforth Terrace close to junction of Burn Road which resulted in the bridge part going towards Seaton being one lane, so if they still there then the town must be gridlocked more than usual. But then again it is just after the start of a new tax year so they will want to spend some money to show the Hartlepool public that out council tax is used. Then be nothing till March when they have use what they not spent so dont get capped the following year. Or is that me being sceptical.
