I was pissing myself when I heard that apparently that Hamilton Academical were invited to the tournament because Bayern Munich pulled out rolfl

I'd like to think that was true even though it probably isn't it would have created the most lop sided tournament since the Yank basketball team in Atlanta Olympics;

Pools, Sunderland Reserves, Huddersfield, and Bayern Munich rolfl

Surely we'd have got a bigger crowd than 880 then :laugh:

maybe some truth in it PJ, I remember when the teams got announced they said that Hamilton stepped in because the 2 teams we had invited had European commitments and one of the 2 had qualified for the Champions League.

I've actually heard this twice. I heard this from TickhillPoolie (if my very bad memory serves me right) on the train back home.

I think they approached some bigs clubs but mostly got turned down flat and things went tits up.

sunderland got invited because brann bergen pulled out.

hamilton got invited because SV Hamburg (4th in german lge) pulled out

Sunderland ressies got invited cos Sunderland pulled out.

this was the case HUFC Commercials dept sent the invites out at the beginning of last season to big european games but got rejected so like Katcha says we ended up inviting Hamilton and Sunderland Ressies

hamburg only pulled out a couple of days before hamilton were announced.

despite this event being a bit flat watchout for a Wilton Group summer tournament every pre-season. One english,one jock and one euro guest

I'm in agreement with most other people here.
Having Sunderland reserves' participate was nothing short of disgraceful. When Sunderland proposed sending their reserves we should have immediately cancelled their invitation and found another FL/SL/Icelandic League FIRST team to take their place.

I hope the club can find ways of making up for this mistake. It's still not too late to turn the centenary season into one to remember.

I believe this is the first time I have publicly criticised the club's administration on this board.

by all interpretations of this people would have been happy with huddersfield, hamilton anyone else other than a patronising gesture from a local side.

i;d have rather have seen bishop auckland here.
