I won't be posting, I've been invited for another visit to Buckingham Palace. (thats 3-1 to me Mr H) I think shes going to give me a Knighthood for services to Pools related websites.

You'd think after I nicked all the silverware last time that they wouldn't want me back. Maybe they did well on the insurance.

To be perfectly honest I'm not that bothered about going. Trouble is that our lass is very bothered and hasn't been before. Shes gone to the touble of a posh frock, hat, shoes, bag etc. Whatever you think of royalty, its a good day out.

To be fair, the Queen costs us all about £1 each year.

We make a LOT more with her being here.

I'd sooner part of that pound was spent on something a bit more worthwhile than that family regardless of how much they pull in.

Its not about finances with me,though I understand thats a usual argument.
Its about having to bow or curtsy to someone who's no fucking better than me
(except I wouldnt as I'd refuse - and wouldnt get the chance to refuse anyway)
Its about wealth and history and democracy.
Its about the way she speaks squeaky and annoying.
Its about the fact she's no fucking cleverer than the rest of us and doesnt deserve such a lofty position - more like a damp cellar.
I refuse to sing the national anthem and I have always refused to watch the queen's speech.
Its my useless little protest and I'm sticking to it.

"Through this lands cheerless marshes
Hemmed in like a boar between archers
Her very lowness with her head in a sling
I'm truly sorry but it sounds like a wonderful thing"

I'm with Mutley and the Lightning Tree on this one! Ask Mrs Saxe-Coburg for my 66 pence back please! Very, very poor value for money.

I had this lovely image of a boar (representing the queen) with archers either side of it about to release their arrows and kill it.

But the rain that flattens my hair - oh

the royal family won't survive in its current state-funded form beyond another 70/80 years from now is my guess. They'll have to finance themselves in future, as this country is going to become a poor relation in terms of world economical and political clout by then.

I have for a while forseen a future where ordinary people may be cold and/or homeless and hungry, while a small percentage of rich folks (banks etc) hold a load of empty housing stock while the bankrupt Govt can only hold it all together with martial law and shooting us all.

Fuck it - let's have another riot!!!!!!!

Excellent, so let's just close down the monarchy, spend billions on restructuring key laws and regulations and say goodbye to most of our tourism industry.

All for £80m. Yeah, just fucking great.

Woah, fucking calm down!  stpid stpid

Read what I said, then read your reply again and realise how you have totally misconstrued what I have said.

I am simply suggesting that some of the money spent on the Royal family could be better spent. There is no doubt they generate this country a lot of money but could they not generate this money without having obscene amounts of money funding them?

I hope you can answer the question without going f**king apesh*t! stpid stpid

Read what I said. I didn't exactly go apeshit   stpid stpid etc

Either way, I don't think the country gets a greater return for £80 million spent. If you have any idea what else could pull in that amount of money directly, please let me know - I'd be very happy to hear it!

£1 a person from the UK is absolutely nothing. It's not even 2p a week. You could probably find at least 20p on the floor in the street in that time.

Your reply was still well over the top when all I did was put forward my view

You're still missing my point entirely. I know that we get a good return from the 80 million quid but I personally feel we could get the same return without investing such high amounts of our money. You can break it down all you want, 2p a week- 30p a day, 1p an hour etc. It still accounts to 80 million quid a year according to you. My point is that I think the family could still operate efficiently and continue to generate this country a lot of money while severely cutting many of their unearthly costs.

Here's the bit that I don't get... why does anyone think that the UK tourism industry would collapse if the Windsors were no longer in charge? London is a huge tourist pull with or without the roils. Millions come to visit the British Museum, the Tate Modern, V&A, NPG, Tower of London, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Eye, Trafalgar Square, Tussaud's, Oxford Street, etc etc etc. Besides, they'll still be there in their big house. I don't think anybody is seriously proposing a cull. They just wouldn't be running the show any more.

Couldn't agree more.

Paris seems to do very well as a tourist attraction without any royals. How many of these tourist come only because of The Royal Family? It's impossible to quantify. It seems to be the only good reason ever stated for them. (apart from no President Blair of course.)

Correct Mr Ripper sir. I got my first one in fifteen years last year because I needed to, not for luxuries but becaues I couldnt afford to do some very important training without it. I'm struggling to pay it off every month and wont be getting another one
