Morton fan here. Indeed we did have an experimental back 4 last night (and we usually play a back 3, which we changed to in the second half). The 2 centre-halfs had never played for us before, the right and left backs have played in previous pre-season matches (this was our 5th game in 9 days). The right back (Alan Reid) played as a striker for us 7 years ago on loan, the other 3 were U20s (info here - Image). A couple more trialists came on in the second half.

On the whole it was a very experimental pre-season match which was low on incident. Hartlepool were probably the better side, but neither 'keeper had much to do (which was lucky for us considering how our 'keeper coped with the little that was thrown at him).

I thought James Brown looked a good player, and your defence didn't look very organised at all.

Our new signing playing up front last night was Englishmen Jon Newby, who seems to have collected a few clubs in his time. He has actually once scored against Hartlepool, back in 2001. Not sure what to think of him so far, he hasn't really impressed but it's early days.

Twice*

*three times if you count a penalty shootout! So his total is one "regular" goal (actually a golden goal!), one pen, and one pen in a shootout.

I stand corrected

Our other striker last night (Brian Wake) has also scored against you, back in 2002.

Yes, he was 60 yards offside for Carlisle. We promptly went up the other end and banged two in to beat ther sheep-molesters 2-1.

To be fair Wake isn't exactly quick enough to actually beat an offside trap.
