I got caught carrying a knife once Mutt, at Newcastle Airport, flying OUT, except I wasn't carrying it; it was in my bag. It had a 2.1/2 inch blade. But it was a lock knife, one I'd bought legally in France and never thought about twice until then. It could have had a five-inch blade without a lock and they wouldn't have said anything. As it was they could have arrested me there and then if they'd wanted.
Fortunately they accepted my explanation for having it, though I was tempted to say I kept it for killing midgets. They did confiscate it however.

if I was in hospital recovering from knife wounds, the last person I'd want to see is a knife-wielding felon.

a lot of stuff goes unreported, because things could get a whole lot worse for the victims involved. I'm willing to bet intimidation is at an all time high, but unfortunately there's no way that such a thing can be measured.

I reckon it doesn't get reported as much these days because people know that unless you've been murdered or near enough the bobbies will do nothing.

I got "happy slapped" on the tube a few years ago just before the papers picked up on "happy slapping" and made people aware of it – I was sat on the tube coming home from work, reading the paper minding me own business with a group of about 7 or 8 18/19 year olds next to me all looking at their phones and laughing. They got off at the stop before me and I thought nowt of it. Until one got back on and batted me really hard round the head and legged it. It took a few seconds to register what had happened and then I was off the train legging it after them shouting “Get back here you cowardly ****”.

They went up the escalator, and this is where it went wrong – I went up the fixed staircase and 40 odd years of drinking and smoking caught up with me and I slowed down about half way up. By the time I got to the top they were well away - a Polish bloke offered to help me chase em but they were too far away. So I went to the station gadge and he called the transport police. The transport police operator woman effectively accused me of racially abusing these youths but reported the incident and the station bloke sent them the CCTV with the culprits on it. The following Monday (it happened on a Friday) a transport bobby phoned me to say they couldn’t pursue it because they’d lost the CCTV tape!! I said to him that if I’d caught them I would have hit the lad and he said, “We would have arrested you for that.”

Why waste your time reporting it?

The point I was actually making was has knife crime risen but, say, broken beer bottle crime or gattling gun crime gone down.
