welcome to the board man, The Stone Roses under-rated???? They've GOT to be THE SINGLE MOST OVER-RATED band in history!

Bag of shite.

no no no no no - in the style of that odd elfin type creature off vicar dibley thing. they are in no way worthy of the title that you bestow upon them - i never stated that the band were underated - their second album was underrated due to the fact that they were overhyped and that their first album was a breath of fresh air and fookin good- they were a band of that time and age (i believe you were probably just a tad older) and they fitted. success and over hyping brings discontent from a lot of quarters (i'm sure a lot of people really really rate westlife, me - burn em) - now the happy mondays - as much as i enjoyed their first two albums - the rest of it - very overrated. - characters though and the press were drawn to them.

I saw the Roses at that Ally Pally gig. Good times. New to London, walking up the hill, stoned and drunk, into Alexandra Palace with its red carpet, spiral staircases with very expensive paintings, lots of people in flares stoned out their boxes. Touts outside selling eight quid tickets for ten times the amount.
Good experience but Ian Brown's voice wasnt the greatest, lets be honest. Never seen him or them again.
Saw the Mondays twice - once they were brilliant and once they were awful.

I saw the Stone Roses on Spike Island in 1990,total cock up,queue for beer was over 2 hours, only 1 bar,on a sunday so it shut from 3 till 7.
Around teatime hundreds of Scousers invaded the island & pulled the fences down
Ended up watching the 1st 2 songs & going to the pub,at closing time there was nothing to get for a carry out so we bought a petrol can from the garage next door & got 8 pints of guinnes in that for the journey home.

What have I started!?! I actually like the roses, that's why the Seahorses were such a disappointment!

Anyway, on a different tack, one for Chip. BBC6 last night referred to his old band - The Fieldmice!

the first stone roses album is something special, no question of that. it's one of the finest examples of a band totally on their game, tight as you like, complimenting each other perfectly with a great swagger about it. the rhythm of mani and reni and the sheer quality of squire, and the writing of Brown. They had the songs on that first album, classic songs. that's what they lacked on the follow-up which was a bit of a Squire ego-trip but nevertheless if any other band had released the 2nd coming they'd have got rave reviews. some of the guitar stuff on that album is awesome.

Even if the Stone Roses really are overrated, they face a lot of stiff competition to take the title of THE most overhyped band of all time.

I give you...

Coldplay
The Pretenders
The Kaiser Chiefs
The Black Crowes
The Clash
The Stereophonics
Big Brother and the Holding Company
China Crisis
Bronski Beat

I'll have to stop - this is depressing me. (Sits back and waits for Mr I to chime in with The Beatles.)

Aventura: Gods project.

Top stuff! Mainly Bachata but with a bit of Reggaton thrown in. Most of you will have heard some of their stuff without knowing who it was. They are played copiously in Spain and other latin countries.

And this is what 'Down-Beat Special' say....

"Exemplary compilation of Ken Boothe classic hits based loosely on the two vinyl issues (but omitting Puppet On A String, Give Me The Rights and When I Fall In Love). Extra tracks include ska belter You’re No Good, Leave Me Crying (previously unreleased according to the sleeve notes, but actually issued as There You Go With A Broken Heart), Artibella (with Ken backing Stranger Cole’s lead vocal), Won’t You Come Home (the extended version previously unreleased), and, a surprise rarity, I’m A Fool (originally issued as a single on the Supreme label and featuring a scorching sax solo by Roland Alphonso). The accompanying booklet includes interviews with Ken Boothe and Coxsone Dodd and comes complete with an informative song by song commentary by Chuck Foster. Sound quality is excellent throughout."

Just heard the song AM 180 which features on the new Radio 1 tv
advert (with all the hairdryers!) for Colin Murrays show, and it reminded me what a great band these guys were! clap clap clap

Ah come on now, what would we need yet another striker for?!!

BTW your spelling of "triallist" looked odd so I tried to look it up in a dictionary. No luck. It doesn't seem to be a dictionary word!

But a search on the BBC site finds 17 pages of triallist and 139 pages of trialist.
I dont think the -ist ending doubles the preceding consonant in non-Websterized English. No idea why like!
