There is nothing wrong with having flexible footballers. It's been an asset to us that Brown can play up top and right, and that Liddle is a very capable defensive cover. However, I wouldn't get carried away and start playing anyone anywhere.

Liddle played a couple of games at left back last when he first arrived and played well, most notably at MK Dons. BUT... he looked a class act wherever he played that season. We're a division higher now, and I wouldn't advocate playing a right footed defensive midfielder as a first choice left back. Right now Humphreys is a better option in that position than anyone else at the club, certainly a better option than Liddle or Clark. If a better specialist left back became available then great, but if not I would start the season with RH. While we are at it, Ben Clark is a centre half. We have plenty of options in centre midfield, let's not take another of our best players out of his best position. Clark / Nelson / Collins / Tait are our centre backs and ideally 2 of the first 3 will forge a partnership.

For me the priority is right back. I honestly thought Sweeney did a useful job for us in that position, but I don't think he's the long-term answer and neither is McCunnie. New signing needed, top priority. Second on the list would be a keeper, then either a striker or a right winger to allow Brown to move up front.

I don't want Clark in midfield either. I'd simply like Wilson to say to Nelse, Collins and Clark; 'there's 2 spaces for taking there, there's three of you, now fight it out between you'. They are three good players, if we can get the best out of them by giving that bit extra to keep their place then we should be in safe hands.

The problem is getting the best out of them.

That's fine, as long as he picks the best two, but we know from last season, he seems to have a problem with Ben.

The stubborn sod will not admit he has made a mistake, if he gets the wrong pairing. e.g Antwi last season
He will continue to play the pair he kicks off with, no matter how out of form one of them might be.

This is not just at centre back, we had the same problem last season, with Budtz and Barker being played when
they were obviously struggling, while Porter and Monkhouse were kept out of the team when they were obviously
better than the players in their positions.

As you may have detected, I am not DW's greatest fan

I think we've seen the best of all of them at some point but it's only Clark who has done it consistently. Now we don't have Antwi dragging them down, I think we have an excellent central defence regardless of the combination that is being used. Of the five defensive positions, the centre backs are easily the least of my concern. Left back and right back would have been my first signings

I don't think he has that big a problem with Ben Clark, he was used sparingly for the first two months of last season while he stuck with Antwi (who was playing well enough at this point) but after that he generally got the full 90 minutes apart from the two big spells he had on the sidelines.

Antwi had an excellent pre-season and started the league season very well too. The general mood on this board at the time wasn't that Ben Clark had been mistreated; it was how lucky we are to have three fine central defenders.

Antwi's good start faltered and Clark was reinstated after ten games, at which point we were 8th in the division. From that point on Clark was selected when fit. He simply wasn't fit often enough.

Didn't I just say all of that?

The point I was trying to make about Barker was that DW played him through the season,
when he was knackered after about 60 minutes.
The Walsall game was after a spell out with an injury, as I recall

Wilson is a clueless 'lovely lovely person' so we will have to put up with his tactical knowledge of playing everybody out of position till we get shot of the twat.

Back On Topic :

I agree with what ParmoPoolie is saying Antwi was great in Pre-Season and the first 5 games of the season and it went downhill from there

I'm also happy with the Centre Back pairing be it Nels - Clark, Nels - Collins, Or Clarke Collins we know they CAN do it and I hope they do, Hopefully Nelse can put the dissapointing season he had last season behind him and get back to the guy we know, Otherwise he'll miss out to players who are just as good

Its Right Back / Left Back where our issue lies, We scored plenty last season but could not defend the leads we took, Be it goalkeeper or defenders error, Very surprising considering the season before we didnt conceed that many
