I don't care what you say this man has more grit and determination than any of our poncy international English players.

If Hartlepool's players could emulate Murray's "Never Say Die" attitude then we will go far.

Win or lose that was a superb comeback.

He's won after being just about beaten in the 3rd set.

He wont beat Nadal though.

Did he?

Quotes? Links?

Surely nobody would be daft enough to alienate his (and his sponsors) audience?

I really enjoyed the tennis tonight.

i haven't enjoyed a tennis match as much since the henman / haarhauss match on middle sunday about 8 or 9 years ago......

I think Murray will struggle in the next round but he showed a lot of charachter tonight, i hope he can build on his performance....

I'm not much of a tennis fan, but it was on in the background while I was doing some work tonight. But I have to admit that the work trailed off a bit as I found myself watching the fightback. It was very impressive stuff. Well played to him.

But yes, he'll probably go no further. Not bothered either way.

good summary - as with most sports that aint pools

What's the point in getting excited about a fight back in such a dumb arsed waste of spectators' neck muscles as tennis? Who do the players play for? Their team? Their country? Their supporters? Do they fook. They play for themselves. They play for lolly. What the fook importance for me is it how well they do?

I'd rather get excited about a fight back in snakes and ladders. Andy Murray can go and get seriously fooked along with everyone else who plays that stupid arsed sport for a living.

Now that is a very cynical attitude, isn't it !!!!!

Does this look like the face of a man who is only in it for the money, instead of trying to lay the ghost of Fred Perry and all that to rest:

It was riveting stuff last night, quality from Murray and I just hope he shows as much determination in the next round.

How anyone can knock him and say he's only doing it for himself etc.... is beyond me, after every shot he was acknowledging the crowd and he is far more entertaining than that boring tvat henman.

Cant wait for the Nadal match clappp

Bloody tennis made me miss a programme that I was wanting to watch.

I was at work last night so I set the dvd to record Criminal Justice on BBC 1 which was supposed to be on between 9 and 10. I went to watch it this morning when I got up only to find that the tennis had overran by about 35 minutes or so

Did anyone watch that last night, if so what was it like, if it was ok I think I might have to watch it on the BBC i player

I was listening to Talksport last night and while he was 2-0 down Danny Kelly was referring to him as 'Scotland's Andy Murray' when he pulled it back he very subtly started calling him 'Britain's Andy Murray' again rolfl

What magnificent naivety.

Suddenly tennis is the most popular sport in the country.

Always been that way Mr Ed.

More people were interested in rugby suddenly after the English won.

If only we could be passionate about a thing without a major event coming along - we'd win World Cup, Wimbledon, Eurovision etc.

Mr I, granted some of the players could have bucked up their attitude last season - and I'm not using this as a scapegoat - but don't forget last year something unprecedented happened to this football club, which rocked not only the football club and the town. We were doing alright up until the Swansea game and then went down hill when Maidens died.

As I said in a post long ago, since IOR an Turner came in, they installed something we never had at this club - team spirit. When a player dies, shockwaves revebrate around the club and the town and the players - and if those players weren't human, they would not have been totally devastated about that young lad dying so tragically up on the Moors.

A few performances post-Maidens could ahve been better.

Also attendances of 3,500 at the start coming off from an average home attendance of 5,000 pre-Maiden's death and in a better division is to me totally unacceptable.

This article proves my point: A supportitive crowd does help competititors

Honestly Mr K, I think its a very weak excuse. The ones who were close to MM were the very young players and it was them who held it together, it was the older heads who let the side down.

A week or two maybe but a whole season - naw.

I think it's at that point that we have to forget that we're professional footballers and remember that we are in fact human beings with our own emotions that affect our sense of judgement.

Too many people think being emotional is wimpish for poofs, if I could be frank.

I think it's important that we show our emotions (pain, love, grief) etc as men.

Either way, it was a tragically unprecedented season in our history and you can't compensate for the effects of it.

Sometimes when people die you have to just get on with it. Trust me, I have some experience of this. For an entire group of people to give up on a year because someone not particularly close to the majority of them dies is frankly pathetic.

Oh give over and stop talking sh*te! To say we struggled last season because of the death of Michael maidens is ridiculous. If someone who works in a office dies suddenly then the co-workers can be forgiven for being upset for a while but soon they get on with their job just the same. The players should be no different. To say the death of MM was on their minds during the remaining games last season is just crazy and if you believe that then you will believe anything

I need no reminding myself Mr I about hoaving to cope with grief. I celebrated a great Christmas with my Nan in 2006. On May 17th she died. I have never been the same since. Nor will I be. That's how emotion can affect a person.

I agree with you that there were some times during that season that we could have tried harder, but I think fate was to conspire against them last season. All those matches that I counted where referees screwed us as well was shocing to say the least.

You see other tragedies happen at other football clubs and the outpouring of grief in scenes outside football grounds a la Hillsborough, Bradford and you truly wish that would never happen at your own football club. What I saw in the aftermath of Maidens death were scenes that I NEVER thought I'd see at Pools and the shock in the town must have been 10 times more shocking than it was here, but just the announcement of Maidens death hurt me badly (probably because it reminded me of the Grief I had suffered with Nan). I love this football club with all my heart, when something like MM or Tim Carter happens, a little bit of me dies tragically each time, probably because these are your heros.

TIM CARTER 1967 - 2008 R.I.P

That's an absolutely ridiculous and heartless thing to say. if you've worked in that office all that time together you build external friendships and memories, when your friends die, those memories die and it leaves a hole inside you forever.
Sometimes we do have to forget that we are all human beings living on the same rocky planet, governed by the same certain emotional values.

The introduction of the huddle before games is a reminder of the strong team spirit at this club and because we've had that so long and so intensely, it would hurt greatly in an occasion where that team spirit is SHATTERED
beyond all belief.

I knew Michael from the age of 9rs old
This thread is upsetting

please believe me, these lads were gutted and not used to loosing a or witness a mate. colleague, friend dying.

It made a massive impact on them, Young and old ( christ sme of them would be what? 27?)

Mr I your quote
"Honestly Mr K, I think its a very weak excuse. The ones who were close to MM were the very young players and it was them who held it together, it was the older heads who let the side down.

I can't believe You think death only affects the young players? or you think young people dying doesn't affect those who are nearing 30?

Man down chaps,..

Over the top...

Give this one a rest
With respect

I didn't care when he was in and I don't care any more or less now he's out.

I have it on good authority however that the British lasses are rather pleased his victor is still in contention. Murray just didn't cut the mustard when it comes to making them wet their pants.
