Or so you would think due to the Mail running the same story (power will be great blah blah) about him for the past 2 weeks.

Getting fucking sick of the lad already!

It makes a change from them 'linking' us with random strikers from all over the place which are just players plucked out of the air.

Although signing a striker who could fly might be cool.

Signing one who could score a few goals would be a bit of a novelty, too
(penalties excluded, of course)

Do I detect early signs of Power being written off already?

We must be the only fans who write people off before they kick a ball

Paul Power.

He's our new left back.

He's getting on a bit but he's quicker than Elliott.

How exactly does getting sick of a paper doing the same article over and over mean iv written off the lad already?

Some of you are clueless beyond belief.

There is nothing new to report on, so they're milking this story for all it's worth - it's what newspapers do, just ignore it.

Wasnt in you that bragged you "played football at a reasonable level"? And your boasting about having a poorly taken photo of you knelt next to a badly made trophy from Mike Goughs in one of the worst regional papers in the country?

Whoop de do.

Bet your kids are proud.

I don't want to be a pedant but Mike Gough's has closed thus making your vitriol factually inaccurate.

the trophy is quite old and i very much doubt it came courtesy of mike gough as the league is based in sunderland.

at the age of 45 it would be somewhat miraculous were i still able to turn out for barcelona, but i did play 35 consecutive games for a team that included players who have played pro and semi pro.

my kids arent proud of this fact, though i guess they prefer me fit and active to some sad, fat, miserable, pissed up old loner tramp that smells of wee off rivals.

Here we go with the old "Rivals" stereotype.

One small point though, a Barker touchdown? Now a field goal I would believe. He only scores them you see.

the san francisco 49ers have the tallest wide receivers in the nfl but their fingers often appear to be coated in butter. the likes of ashley lelie and bryant johnson being obvious examples.

it has been remarked of the latter that he could not catch a plastacene ball even were he to have hedgehogs for hands.

actually it was me who said that stuff about johnson whilst tearing up a betting slip. sadx

Jesus Christ! You know just as much about the torrid position of the Miami Dolphins and their ridiculous trade of Chambers to the Chargers... with Ronnie Brown out for pretty much ever, they've got nothing. Cleo Lemon is the single worst quarterback I've ever seen too... good job they got Chad Henne.

The 49ers are a sleeping giant and will bounce back in a year or two. Alex Smith seems to have competition from Shaun Hill at QB so there'll be some healthy competition (a bit like the Browns and Cardinals).

Who do you follow, Chip?

sorry gp, to answer your question, i dont follow anybody.

i quite like teams that remind me of pools, so last season it would have been the saints and the vikings, who were not only great one week and shiit the next, but who were often shiit and brilliant in the same game.

i also liked the fact that the vikings adrian petersen was played in the joel porter role, ie criminally underused despite clearly being sheer class .

i dont like the colts, the browns, the bears, the dolphins or the cowboys and the chargers infuriate me.

I'm very similar, I'm the same in any sport - I prefer to follow the underdogs and the shock teams. I actually have a Peterson jersey (and a Reggie Bush one too) because the bloke's an utter legend. I'll be following the Saints when I go to see the second London game.

I can't remember who's franchised to the 49ers but if Gore isn't already, he will be soon. You're right about Jerry Rice though - he was arguably the best player in the NFL at the time (apart from maybe Emmitt Smith).

I quite like the Chargers and even the Browns after their brilliant season last year (especially that ridiculous 100+ point game vs the Bengals, who I hate). Can't stand the Pats or the Raiders. I'm a Steelers fan though, as I followed the Penguins in the NHL for years.

Who do you reckon will be the shock draw this year?

ben, ben, ben.......

the point one is trying to make is that once the miami dolphins traded away chris chambers their remaining wide receivers were , how shall i put it, somewhat useless. to whit jan budz would be in good company were he to join them.

the san francisco 49ers have the tallest wide receivers in the nfl but their fingers often appear to be coated in butter. the likes of ashley lelie and bryant johnson being obvious examples.

it has been remarked of the latter that he could not catch a plastacene ball even were he to have hedgehogs for hands.

actually it was me who said that stuff about johnson whilst tearing up a betting slip. sadx

Did you compete at the top level in NFL too? What a guy!!!

American Football is , well words can't describe it and most Brits who bang on about it have never played it

I mean, the Hartlepool Steelers for fooks sake!!!

I played for three years. I was selected for the GB preliminary team but had to pull out after doing serious damage to my back. It doesn't matter if you haven't played it anyway - as if you have to have been directly involved in a sport to enjoy it, you fooking rarf.

You're right. Steelers is now as irrelevant as Dockers.

Hmmm, I wonder what typifies Hartlepool these days. Hartlepool Telemarketers?

It's mainly because the Steelers is the closest team name to a relevant link. But your point is also part of the reason I left it at that - not exactly anything to go on nowadays. Most teams, if they haven't moved, keep names relevant to ages ago. The 49ers are named after the Klondike gold rush, ffs

And thanks Chip. It's genuinely nice to see someone being sound on here, instead of being arrogant and too busy inflating their online egos in order to portray themselves as some kind of sporting xenophobe, even though half of them hate their OWN team too....

Liking the same half arsed, God awful sport hardly makes one 'sound' in my opinion (not that I would EVER suggest Chip isn't sound, a man of his sporting prowess is 'sound' to say the very least)

And as for being a 'rarf' because I think the Steelers were a load of old wank, well what else can I say

PS

My brother in law played for the Steelers and he is a doyle

PPS

So putting it quite simply, I think American Football is as interesting as the cold and windy evening I spent outside Scunthorpes ground in late 1996 waiting for the RAC to come and fix my car

I've always thought Chip was a top bloke (and it wasn't me who started the full-blown conversation about the NFL) and for once it's nice to have someone who doesn't use it as a half-arsed springboard to (failing to) take the piss. I'm playing up to the shit jokes heading my way - I think it's a good thing for the community that I encourage the dim-witted folk on here

I didn't call you a rarf because you don't like the Hartlepool Steelers. I thought I made that perfectly clear.

PS

Don't give a fook

PPS

It's clear what people think of American Football in this country anyway. I like it, and I don't give a fuck what others think of it. rolfl
