In April & May 1955 there was 6 songs released in the British charts named 'Stranger In Paradise'!!!! confised confised

They were released by....

Tony Bennett - No.1

Don Cornell - No.19

Tony Martin - No.6

Bing Crosby - No.17

Eddie Calvert - No.14

Four Aces featuring Al Alberts - No.6

I wonder if it was actually the same song they all used???? sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

The thing is....we go on about the Charts today....especially Boy/Girl Bands doing cover versions....but that is ridiculous if it was the same song!!!! confised

Stranger in Paradise is from the musical Kismet which presumably had just come out. But the song itself dates back to 1890! All the music in Kismet is taken from Alexander Borodin's works, notably his opera Prince Igor. Other songs I wouldn't be surprised to find in the hit parade that year are "And this is my Beloved" and "Baubles, Bangles, Beads" from the same musical.

As an aside, Patrick Watts - the raio station manager played 'Strangers in the night' as the Argies ran up the road during their invasion of the Falklands.

What I can't understand is when pop songs are done by someone else, they're called 'cover versions', yet when a jazz singer does one it's called a 'standard'.

When a jazz singer does one it doesn't count because it's not music.

The one thing I can't stand about jazz is why they all insist on singing bo pe de bo pe de do do bo pe de instead of words. Lazy gets.

Another piece of Trivia that Mr.Dunn will have known anyway but I've just found out.... ....

Ringo Starr (real name Richard Starkey) and his son, Zak Starkey, have topped the chart as drummers in different groups....Ringo with The Beatles and Zak with The Crowd....("You'll Never Walk Alone")....Baddiel & Skinner and The Lightning Seeds ("3 Lions '98") and Oasis ("The Imporatance Of Being Idle").

That's the ONLY thing you can't stand about jazz?

I've said it before and I'll say it again

Jazz might be bearable if they could all play the same tune at the same time
