I have4 just heard on the radio that the Loids new target for next season is DAVID BECKHAM as a club ambassador!

I honestly cant understand where Mr Houghton is going with this but if it is a publicity stunt then it wont work. Imagine Darlo affording Beckhams wages, and posh moving to Darlington!!!!!

The comparisons are coming thick and fast:

George Reynolds: "premiership in five years"
George Houghton: "championship in five years"

George Reynolds: - we'll sign an ex premiership player - Tino Asprillia
George Houghton: - we'll sign an ex premiership player - David Beckham

George Reynolds: - blew it in the play offs
George Houghton: - blew it in the play offs

I read that bizzare article in the Echo today, the best bit was when he denied he was selling up saying he's not fooking off until 2010, a massive 18 months away. They'll be in the Championship by then you see, he has a five year plan.

Great stability that rolfl

So now it's going to be back to back promotion for Darlo.

Wrong actually, he's looking at getting him in as an ambassador in a couple of years. He's already looking at setting up links with a club over there, and a couple in Poland.

Also, he says two years before he'll leave? I'm sure plenty of teams in Leagues One or Two would love to be guaranteed two seasons of financial stability.

Thirdly, just because he says hes leaving, doesn't mean he won't have someone lined up to replace him. He's a businessman. he'll have plenty of contacts.

Two years isn't really stability is it?

Your future is uncertain so that's not stability. You could be right but you could also be back to square one by 2010.

Of course he will, of course!!!!

It won't be the first time a George has sailed you down the river, still you can always rest on the fact you won the league back in 1991 as you contemplate another season in the basement

So amazing that they even can't help rubbing salt in the wounds of their own fans apparently....

For what its worth I don't think GH is in the same fantasy land as GR, although I do think he would be better to keep some of what he's saying private. The Beckham thing is guaranteed ridicule time, even if all he says is he's going to ask him - so why say it? If he asked and got a positive answer it would be a big enough story in itself, it wouldn't need any build up.

Some of it just looks like trying to gee up the fans for next season, "we're doing something, honest!" Setting up international links - well, Pools have the Sarawak thing happening, but it's not being sold to us as we're going to get the cream of Malaysian talent; as with everywhere else, if someone is exceptional they'll get picked up by a top club. I don't think the US thing will take off too much as the Premier clubs will be eyeing up the US market if it looks successful - to an extent that's already happening with several clubs already owned by Yanks (Man Utd, Liverpool, Villa) ready to pounce.

I personally don't think the "here until 2010" thing is too much for them to worry about (could be wrong) - he's talking about retiring as chairman, not selling up completely. He could always just remain owner and get someone else to be chairman in his name and do all the day to day work after all. I'm pretty sure they won't be a Championship level club by then though, unless they change all the names again....
