Incidentally, that trophy looks more like Chris Westwood.

It has to be said that by far the most people who voted would be supporters from the past 30 years or so. With that in mind, it could be said that the over all winner would come from the past 30years.

Looking at that time scale for me there can only be one player who could get that honour, and he did.

I started in 1973 to go to Pools and for me he is over all the best player. I can of course understand that John and fellow long standing fans will have their "Better" player. That is the very nature of football, it is as they say "A game of opinions".

As it stands the fans of Hartlepool United have voted that their player of the Century is Ritchie Humphreys. I am sure that like me they would have taken time to vote and taken time to think long and hard about all their options before they cast their historic vote.

I concur.

Except I didn't vote.

A few seconds after that photo was taken, he was swamped by a gang of about 15 deluded Poolies who tried to have intercourse with him.

A few sensible people at the back of the room shook their heads in disbelief at the comedy that is Hartlepool United before walking out.

So who gets your vote?? Or are you a professional politician because you certainly act like one critise all you like but the last 8 years have been the most successful in the Century that Pools have been around so naturally the accolade of Player of the century should be someone who has been involved in the team over all this time.. or am I missing something?

You are missing something, a fookin brain you cretin. You are clearly completely stupid. To suggest that the best player must come from the period at which we were most successful (albeit with a relegation) shows what an idiot you are.

Richie is loyal, no question, he is a model pro, no question, he has played many games, no doubt about it, he is a nice bloke, agreed BUT he is not the best player to have played for the club.

Kevin Poole, MArtin Hodge, McPhail, Russel Bradley, Watty Moore, Johnson, Huthcison, Miller, Jan Ove, Doig, Mckinnon, Dalton, Honour, Emerson, Baker, Allon, Monkhouse, Joel Porter, Boyd, Nicky Southall, Ben Clark, Brown and many more are better than Richie. Only because we were not successful during relevant periods does not mean that they were not great players. stpid stpid stpid

The abuse is because im sick of the complete rubbish that has appeared on the board today, usually by the same few people. Those who have an iota of common sense will get my respect even if I disagree with them. I wont however patronise someone who comes out with comments like offshorepoolie/offhisheadpoolie has just done by pretending they are intelligent. There is no point in even coming back with a reasoned argument as they wont understand it.

well i have no problem with humphreys as player of the century, if only because he symbolises the past few years more than any other player. successive pools managers have thought fit to play him consistently, are they all wrong ?

I have no problem with Ritchie playing regularly under the various managers. I would play him too if I was manager. What I disagree with is all the shite about him being the 'best player' when he clearly isnt. Its an insult to a lot of players who have played for the club and went on to a higher level.

In the current squad he deserves his place but if you were to put together a team of the century would he be in it? Mckinnon was a better left back and Monkhouse, Dalton and probably Paul Smith were all better wingers, therefore if he could not realistically get into the team of the Centuary (if there was one! Hopefully there wont be as I cant be arsed with any more of this shite) then he cant really be the best player. A good all round player, yes but thats it.

Grave, I think the award is for being the best player in 100 years for Pools people are missing that point. Yes we know people have left the club and went onto achieve great things but what they have done before or after is irrelevant in this award.

By your logic Peter Beardsley with nearly 60 England caps or John Mcgovern with two European Cups should win it, in reality these didn't play many games for the club so would never qualify for the award.

Richie Humphreys given his overall contribution as a player to the club is one of the handful who qualify to be deserving of the award, surely you can't argue with that? Obviously we have alternatives but he is stands out as someone if he left tomorrow who would be always considered as a Pools legend.

I agree 100% with that PJ , that he has done an awful lot for the club but its people who come out with comments suggesting he is the best player to play for us which gets my (escape) goat.

Further to Grave's most ridiculous post ever (and that's saying something), Russell Doig score two goals in 38 appearances. Yes, he should have been player of the century, not Ritchie.

As for Russell Bradley:

rolfl rolfl Now if you had said Peter Billing . . .
