Not to mention Oscar Coxon in the Causeway.

Me mother still refers to them both as Oscar Bloody Coxon and Alfie Bloody Smithson. Nothing to do with them like, it was just that me father used to spend a lot of time in their company.

Is he any relation to Alan Coxon, he used to get in the Causeway loads when I worked there

I don't know if they're related maybe just a coincidence. Oscar's son was a teacher.

The Nursery in Hart Road opposite the Old Cemetery has seen some star folkies in it's day. It's still a decent back room.

Not sure if Alan was a teacher or not but I think he used to play rugby for West, he was a big rugby fan in general as well

I had my first pint in the Park Inn (is that the right name?) when I was 16 and I looked about 12. It was well known at sixth form for serving kids so I went and got served. Pint of cider I think. I had my first snog in the Gem that same year with a girl from my class and we were both so drunk, she let me take her whole top off and I was sucking her nipples in a packed nightclub. And no-one said owt and there were no bouncers around. Ellish. That couldn't happen today could it? Kids of today haven't lived like we have.

There are a few names on that list I don't know, remember I was only 14 when I moved away from the Headland, I didn't start drinking till I was 16 (I know a late developer). My Dad's favourite was the Dun Cow, I have this vague memory of getting my hair cut in there, don't know why, I usually went to Joe French!

Mention of the Durham Ox made me laugh. There was a pub by that name in Cambridge, it was revamped and named 'Chariots of Fire'. It then burnt down - true story that.

He was. He was my history teacher at the Grammar and he was a well known sadist. He was always involved with West rugby when they were at Brierton. Dunno about after that.

The Seaton Hotel. I grew up in there!! Started drinking in the Caravan Club down at Seaton, then graduated through the Marine and onto the Seaton. I went back in maybe four years ago and it was utter pants.

our barman was offered the Globe by Punch Taverns this week on unbelievable incentives, but the place is basically done for, and I don't blame him for not taking it. They said it was getting boarded up today if he wasn't interested.

There will be possibly three or four major pub chain outlets left in Hartlepool in five years time. They will shut by the dozen in this period at this rate. People can't complain in future when they have no local to go to, nobody seems to be interested anymore. Fair enough if that's the case, but it's no use complaining that the nearest pub is in Church Street or somewhere like that new one in Throston in 10 years time.

The Birds Nest ( Used to be callled The Palace before that ) on Mainsforth Terrace. Saw the Toy Dolls there in 81 just before it closed.

The North Eastern , marvellous multi roomed pub in the traditional sense , Billy Horner was usually in there at 1730pm after a home game ( and he was the frickin Pools manager at the time)
