Brilliant may be a bit strong, but he has a pretty good game

In fact I thought the whole team had pretty good games today, only weak link for me was McCunnie who constantly underhit passes all game (& some of his corners/freekicks were poor) & Foley had only limited impact when he came on

He had a good game.

He was also on the wrong end of a disgraceful decisions today when he was flagged offside when clean through first half. He started his run from a few yards behind the defender and merely beat him for pace.

Brilliant at what ????? Brilliant at running like a headless chicken down the wing and the crossing to the swansea full backs lower leg. Cant cross wont pass cant tackle and dont get me started about his so called shooting. The sooner he is sent on his way to the northern league the better.

I thought that he had one of his better games in a Pools shirt. He was confident enough to run at their defenders and his crossing was much better than usual, he put a few absolute beauties in,m plus he didn't shirk his defensive duties

Player has a reasonable game... There'll be calls for a new contract on the strength of it at this rate.

LOL what a joke. Yeah, by Mattys standards he had an 'ok' game but we are talking about mattys standards here rolfl

He ran around a lot with little end product and some of his crossing was abysmal. To say he had a great game is laughable to be honest.

 Does crossing the ball into the side netting result in a good performance now?

Iv seen baby elephants control a ball better, cant tackle, cant shoot, cant mark. Oh but he can run fast so he gets a game a la Foley.

We are always going to have a few dodgy players amongst our ranks, we can't afford 16 players that would walk into any other team, that's why we're in this division, we just have to hope our dodgy ones are better than the the oppositions.
Swansea looked as though they only had 4 or 5 decent players, the rest were nowt flash.
Matty did not much wrong yesterday, played ok, caused them a few problems and is probably one of the better squad players you could have, who else could we have played apart from Boland, who most people on here don't like.

He did that once, Thomas Butlers final ball was no better yesterday. You can't rate someones performance (apart from a goalkeeper) on one instance.

He had a decent game, and was very unlucky to be flagged offside ok his finish may have ended up the Town End but we'll never know.

He's probably on next to nowt and there's others in the queue before him, so why not, but it obviously depends on who else we have lined up.

To be honest, when his name was announced earlier in the seaon during the team run-down I thought he'd already left.

I'll get behind the lad and say when he's had a decent game like yesterday.

But I'll also say I think he's had enough chances and don't think he's going to get any better. He hasn't improved as a player since we saw him as an 18 year old lad. I don't see much merit in retaining him as he's failed to establish himself over a number of years.

Harsh but the truth.

Being 'one of us' is not enough, we can't build a team on sentiment, he's had his chance and never taken it. Cruel game football.

When he plays well he needs praising. :sweeeet:

He is a professional footballer, they get slagged off from time to time, it goes with the job. The meaning of the word 'professional' in any job carries with it the responsibility to get on with the job regardless of circumstances. Confidence payers are a liability.

I'll concur with that.

It's a pity about Matty. We would all love him to have made it. He is a far better player than Foley IMO.

the main problem with Robson appears to be his inability to grasp the positional aspects of the game, it seems the management are constantly instructing him once the game has started. Either you know what you're doing once the game has started - or you don't.
I sat behind the dugout for the Rotherham LDV match last season, and Butterworth and Wilson were constantly shouting at him as to what he should be doing. He just doesn't have any natural inclinations for positional play at all.
That's without his poor crossing/passing most of the time.
He isn't good enough - simple as.

I hate to see anyone fail at what they set out to achieve, we all lose when it happens and it has to be heartbreaking to never achieve your ambition in the game, but that's the way it is. Like I said, it's cruel.

I'd be willing to bet that Matty Robson has played more first team football in the third division than the fourth division.

Over to the stattos!!

For the record, I like Matty Robson as a winger, I don't like Matty Robson as a full back. He has the problem of Monkey to deal with but Monkey hasn't set the world on fire this season.

That is Monkeys fault not Danny Wilsons.

No, merely observing that daft Monkhouse got a long ban at the beginning of the season for trying to throttle someone at Rochdale and then batter them in the tunnel, got injured for a bit, fell out with the boss and with all that added together missed the first four months of the season.

But lets blame someone else 'cos Monkeys got twinkle toes.

Does the fact that all the above actually happened mean that I want to have Danny's babies?? No, it means someone 5500 miles away is more in touch with reality than the people round the corner.

Anyway, Mr S, what's your take on the Gardner 8L3B?? x 14 or x 15 compression and would you replace the rings before upping the compression co-efficient??

kev... calm down , it was a joke....I don't really care any more, the nights are getting lighter, the summers on its way and I've got the 'channels'......
As for the Gardner, where'd you get that engine designation... joke about Pools, but not about Gardners

Off the casing on the engine in the Chinese ex-Navy MTB I've got moored down on the YongJiang River.

It's a right workhorse and never misses a beat. Also if they come round the bend and abuse the red and greens I can shoot 'em out of the water.

I like Matty Robson when he drives his car away from the Vic....

He never gives in, tries very hard but let's be honest here, he very rarely beats his man, has the positional sense of Ray Charles, is a piss weak in the tackle and can't cross to save his life

Monkey is the best winger I have seen at Pools in my lifetime, Matty Robson is like a fish out of water I', afraid....

Do give over, Monkey is a 1000 times the player Robson is, I don't know if Radio Free China has a special 'Matty Robson' filter that makes it sound as if he has positional sense, can win headers and tackles, doesn't get caught with the ball at least ten times a game and can't shoot for toffee, but is certainly seems the case

PS

'Daft Monkhouse' nearly got his leg snapped in the tackle which preceded his outburst, but never mind, he should of just pressed his chin into his chest and ran around in ever decreasing circles for ninety minutes....

Robson played ok on Saturday, but some stupid buggers just have to slag him cos he's had bad games in the past.

I agree with PK that he's not a full back but looks a threat on the wing at times, Saturday being one of those times.

I'd give him games between now and the end of the season as a last chance to earn a new contract. If he plays well enough to convince even one of the blinkered boo boys slating him on this thread then he might deserve a chance...

PS. Mr Tree, Mr Avenger and Mr Disorder, why don't you come to 5-a-side with us one Wednesday and show us your skills?

He's had as many bad games as Foley , he doesn't warrant a new contract in my opinion

BTW, I have never booed any Hartlepool player, or hurled abused at them, I just think he's had his chance now, is it four or five seasons now, and he just isn't showing any signs of become a decent 3rd division player

I would love to make the 120 mile round trip on a cold wet Wednesday night to play a mediocre five a side game with a load of out of shape 30 something's..but I have some paint I need to watch drying
