Yet another unit that will stand empty on our town centre.

lets have a sweep on what the replacement will be!!

1) Stay empty
2) Poundplanet (or another pound type shop)
3) Another travel agents
4) Another card shop
5) Another "200% APR" Brighthouse type premise

It used to be shoe shops. I once took a girl on leave to Hartlepool in the eighties and she came away convinced the town was populated by centipedes with a penchant for cheap and nasty shoes.

The number of empty units in the town are a joke. Half of the indoor market has gone, no shops between King Johns and the chemist, various other units are empty.

Rents & rates must be ridiculously high.

There is another Greggs opening, on the site of the Garage at the Belle Vue Way roundabout. For anyone who can't make it all the way into the town centre.

For what is supposed to be the 3rd largest shopping centre in the North East, Middleton Grange really is a dump. It is on a par with Billingham, Newton Aycliffe, Peterlee etc. There is no 'anchor' store like a debenhams which would attract people. Why on earth anyone would come from out of town to shop here?
Even Washington which is in the shadow of sunderland and the Metro centre has better shops and with 2 big supermarkets the parking is free.
Starbucks, Cafe Nero, Costa Coffee etc have done their homework. No way would a company with a modern image want to set up in the town

Waterstones isn't a proper shop, Snowy
It eats up independent bookshops and has created a situation where only well- known writers (like the egregious Martin Amis)are promoted.

Our town centre Xmas lights were embarrasing as well. Sticking a few lights on lamp posts. Anyone who has seen Stockton's lights would know how bad ours were.

I blame the mayor. In fact I'm going to write to that nice Mr Wright to complain.

Surely lamp posts already have lights........someone over there has clearly got things wrong.

In Durham, the Christmas lights were mint....tiny little bulbs all mid-night blue :sweeeet:
