Barks is not good enough for League 1. Simple as that.

I think it boils down to how much you want the club to move forward. If you're happy to see average and inconsistent performances and never really push to get out of this division then in Barker and Joel we have the perfect front two for you. If you want the club to challenge for the Championship then we need far better strikers than the current two.

I like them both, I am a massive Joel fan and Barker's worth ethic is superb but I don't think either can be consistently good enough to get us out of the division. Joel shows flashes of excellence and Barker puts in some occasional excellent shifts but thats as far as it goes at the moment.

We aren't going to get 11 new players in are we. That's the sort of thing Hodgy used to do down the road.
We all saw what a difference just two new players made last season. Four WELL CHOSEN good new players could make us into a hell of a team. Their competence would surely rub off on those whom we know have innate skills. Collectively four decent championship standard players would be more valuable than one Rooney (but not four Rooneys!)

I wouldn't argue with that. McCunnie, Clark, Collins, Liddle, Brownie and Monky are the only players I have seen who can play consistently at this level (even Collins is contentious as I've only seen for 150 minutes). The team should be built round these. Joel would prosper from a new partner and could play consistently at this level if kept fit, especially if Brownie and Monky are on the wings. Barker definitely needs replacing though, I don't care how many goals and penalties he has scored this season; he isn't mobile enough to trouble opposition defences week in week out.

Personally, I'd love a new manager to come in and move Brownie up with Joel and Monky out to the wing. Sadly I think we're stuck with Wilson and his non sensical starting XI's.

Joel Porter played consistantly well at this level alongside Boydy.

Chip is dead right about Barker though, you have to admire his pluck but almost all of his goals have come against teams at the bottom of this league or from the penalty spot. He simply cannot cut it against the better teams.

Barkers goals

Penalties
Luton (a)
Luton (h)
Southend (h)
Crewe (h)
Port Vale (h)
Brighton (h)
Oldham (h)
Doncaster (h)

Open Play
AMC Morecombe 1
FAC Gainsborough 2
Port Vale (h)
Luton (h)
Crewe (h)
Forest (a)
Carlisle (h)

So only two goals from open play against decent teams then, what this demonstrates is that good defenders snuff him out quite easily. He is an excellent 4th division striker.

Some very good points made by Chip, Mr i and TPP and most people would agree with them. To be up there challenging for the top 6 Richie Barker isn't good enough to be plan A or the only plan as what currently seems to be the case. he will however make a decent plan B for the latter stages of some games or even to start some but he simply isn't good enough to be an ever present if we expect to be pushing for the play offs in this league........

Note:

At no stage has anyone slagged Ritchie Barker off. I for one wish the rest of the team has his work etchic and bottle.

So has Anthony Sweeney but this was several seasons ago, I was referring to this season.

Robbie Elliott and Alan Thompson have too but I don't want either of them useless shithouses anywhere near the starting XI next year! [/quote]

Totally right. I am not slagging the bloke off and never would, its Wilson's fault for playing him for 90 minutes every week. I just want the best possible strikeforce for the club and sadly you need more than a good worth ethic to have this and to ultimately win football matches.

indeed mr i. and if he was to leave and ever came back to play against us for another club im sure he would get a very warm reception.

to be fair to barker he has been clearly over-used by the manager this season. he runs his blood to water every game and takes a lot of knocks week in and week out.

yet again last friday night a lot of us were amazed that he wasnt subbed with 20 minutes to go as he was clearly getting nothing from their huge lump of a centre half.

at times the manager has blamed fans for getting on barkers back when the truth has been that the fans were actually hacked off at the managers insistence on him playing for 90 minutes of every game.

Agree with all of that. it is actually a sad reflection on Mr Wilson that a player like Richie Barker is getting criticised. Is Wilson incapeble of seeing the obvious?

i really dont know what wilsons thinking is.

he keeps selecting boland who clearly is either unfit or uninterested and has to be subbed by the hour mark of every game. for the hour that he is on the field liddle is invariably carrying him.

last friday he played with a big target man and had 2 central midfield players on the flanks, and as a result there were no decent crosses into the box for barker to get on the end of.

we started with 3 defenders ( lee, antwi and nelson ) who can barely pass a ball, and invariably punted it upfield in the general direction of their centre halves.

the whole thing was a shoddy mess.

again.

those are my thoughts exactly willie boland isnt good enough for league 1 and argue all you's want but neither is barker he works and works but its still not good enough we also need monkhouse in for f*ck sake DW think it through and playing foley for any more than last 10 mins is a disgrace you useless prat he jus isn't up to scratch for sides in league one sctatchinghead banghead
