Try telling that to Mrs Parmo mate!! I forgot my debit card when I went to work yesterday, as the restaurant I had planned to book us into on the night, won't accept bookings over the phone on Valentine's Day without your deposit money. Anyway she threw a totally unreasonable strop because she would have to phone up and book it herself (because the card was at home), so she wouldn't do it on some point of "principle" about this Valentine's Day. She really believes that on a day like that it's up to me to become Romeo for the day. Now there is serious disharmony where there otherwise wouldn't have been, had it not been for this Valentine's Day.
I agrre wholeheatedly, it's a huge commercial con. Bot-all to do with everyday life - but it's very difficult to make somebody see that they have been conditioned into a pattern of behaviour through commercialism. However I'll attempt to approach it in my usual subtle manner later today. By which time we won't speak again for another couple of days.
Hang on a minute, I can see the benefits of Valentine's day already.................

Funnily enough, we agreed when we got married that it was a complete rip off and have ignored it all our marriage. However, this morning I was dropping her off at work and popped in the papershop for my papers and there it was after all these years, the perfect late Valentines gift...............

Quick message to tell you all what the tight, miserable, ungrateful B#####D forgot to mention, is that I didn't want to go to the restaurant because I had already arranged for us to have a meal in the house, so after going shopping for flowers, card, his favourite Thorntons chocolates,very very expensive bottle of Bollinger, then preparing the food, before going to work. When the miserable, ungrateful B~~~~~D came in from work full of F~~K with a rose (that was swiped from some poor old dead dears grave) and snapped in the middle and a card that was older than gods dog, not even wife, or to someone special written on the front. So after he set the mood, I set the table, lit the candles, made sure the champagne was cold, served up one of his favourites (spag bol) guess what he did.
