nobody has ever criticised his effort or his work-rate, but given he takes the penalties and plays 90 minutes of every game you would expect him to be the top scorer.

at the same time you could just as easily argue that if he hadnt missed a sitter from 2 yards out against bournemouth we would have won 2-1 instead of drawing 1-1.

i could go on to list a long line of sitters he has missed throughout the season that have cost us so many points that if he had scored them all we would be in the play off positions at the moment, but whats the point ?

barker is what barker is and porter is what porter is.

barker is a fully committed workhorse who will give you 100 per cent every game and will always get you goals against fourth division defences.

put him up against the likes of gainsborough, crewe, luton, port vale etc, teams that cant defend well, and he is in his element, especially if you get crosses whipped into the six yard box.

where he will struggle is against better defences. not because he hasnt got a heart as big as a lion, not because he isnt trying, its because he hasnt got one vital ingredient...pace. that is why he is playing for us and not in the championship.

porter has incredible skill and great pace over short distances. play the ball into his feet and he will make things happen. he will draw fouls all game because very few defenders at this level can cope with him.

however as a result of him drawing fouls with quick turns he gets injured a lot. he can also seem disinterested when he isnt getting the balls into feet he wants. this is why he is playing for us and not in the championship.

anyone who feels that if i like porter i cant like barker and vice versa is clearly not the full shilling.

they both have things they are good at. they both have things they are not so good at. they both have a flaw in the game that has prevented them playing successfully at a level higher than the one they are currently operating at.

what barkers biggest supporters on this board seem incapable of grasping is that there has never been a wholesale slagging of the bloke on this board in the way there has been with the likes of budz, elliott, antwi etc.

what a lot of us couldnt understand was why he was playing a full 90 minutes every week even when he was clearly out on his feet in games and when he was playing badly.
