I agree, and no-one will be knocking him.

I'd knock the bloke who plays him for ninety minutes EVERY fcuking match even when he's playing crap though.

I have to agree.
The lad has had possibly the most flack out of anyone in the side this season but has battled on and his goalscoring record is amazing.
His goals got us into this division and may well keep us up come the end of the season.

Yeah, what a twat Wilson is, playing his top scorer every week. It's a bit like Ruud Gullitt playing Shearer every week. bbolt

nobody has ever criticised his effort or his work-rate, but given he takes the penalties and plays 90 minutes of every game you would expect him to be the top scorer.

at the same time you could just as easily argue that if he hadnt missed a sitter from 2 yards out against bournemouth we would have won 2-1 instead of drawing 1-1.

you could argue that if he hadnt missed a simple one on one against leeds we would have won 2-1 instead of drawing.

you could argue if he hadnt missed two free headers from 4 yards out against cheltenham we would have won instead of losing.

i could go on to list a long line of sitters he has missed throughout the season that have cost us so many points that if he had scored them all we would be in the play off positions at the moment, but whats the point ?

here is the thing the clown wilson and the sychophantic journos from the mail seem to struggle with: when he plays well we say he has played well. he played really well tonight, as he has for the last few games. well done . excellent work.

when he has played shite, we have said that he has played shite. he was playing so shite, and we said it so often, wilson dropped him. note: we did not say he wasnt trying, we said he wasnt playing well and probably needed a rest.

its called noticing things. its what journalists and football managers are meant to be good at.

rage banghead rage banghead

And you rave about fecking porter who has done jack shit since boydy and him had 1 good season in a GOOD team back in 2005!!!

I think majority of fans, including myself, think James Brown is the most creative attacking player we have at the club, and Porters job is to score goals and the only season he has done that is when we had a good team. And he is now into his 5th season 1 out of 5 sctatchinghead

Porter is quality and given the chance he can play the 'barker role' very effectively. He can hold the ball up but his pace gives us better options than Barker does. Like Chip says, Barker has been an ever present this season and im sure Porter would have done even better had he played as frequently in Barkers place.

Oh,and penalties should STILL not count!

Though, Grave, the relative career records of Porter and Barker suggest that, if Porter had played as many games as Barker, then he would have scored nowhere near as many.

Barker was the only Pools player worth even speaking about in the first half. He has often been magnificent this year.

On the other I thought that Porter was dreadful last night until running at a tired, frightened, short-handed defence in the last 15 minutes. He often is ineffectual when he isn't injured. You have to admire some of his skill, pace and close control when he's playing well but I would agree that apart from his season alongside Boyd he has flattered to deceive (Halliday style).

I've never understood the Porter worship from many on here. I'd take effective over stylish anytime me.

Yes, thank God the real Dibble has returned!

Also, as regards some posts above, isn't it weird how reputations grow? e.g. it's not so much that Mr Fireball is always on about Joel Porter as that people are always on about him being on about Joel Porter sctatchinghead

cobblers grabeybaby, he's a confirmed stalker and blinkered obsessive. if porter stuck a knife in him, chip would be admiring his technique with a blade.

porter was average last night, i'm afraid. chip, i've played at a higher level than you, time to bow to my superior knowledge :sweeeet:

Chip Please tell me what Porter has done in the FIVE seasons for you to rate him so highly ???

He has has one good season since he has been here!!

As a striker it is his job to score goals is it not, only 1 of these 5 seasons has he managed double figures. And i know he has troubled with injuries but what use is that to us!!

You go on porter this porter that, like your little facts of what he did in the 1st half (when we were shite last night) fantastic!, shame we went in 2-0 down at half-time !

What involvement did he have in our 3 goals, apart from knocking the ball past pearce for him to get sent-off .

Besides, I can never fathom why people take all the trouble to say things like 'a arsehole'. It's so hard to pronounce besides being grammatically wrong sctatchinghead

Always remember, Proud : before a vowel, use 'an'

No, not always. For example; If I were to say to an illigitimate homosexual 'you queer bastard' it would be in essence be truthful but abusive in tone and content nevertheless.

barker is what barker is and porter is what porter is.

barker is a fully committed workhorse who will give you 100 per cent every game and will always get you goals against fourth division defences.

put him up against the likes of gainsborough, crewe, luton, port vale etc, teams that cant defend well, and he is in his element, especially if you get crosses whipped into the six yard box.

where he will struggle is against better defences. not because he hasnt got a heart as big as a lion, not because he isnt trying, its because he hasnt got one vital ingredient...pace. that is why he is playing for us and not in the championship.

porter has incredible skill and great pace over short distances. play the ball into his feet and he will make things happen. he will draw fouls all game because very few defenders at this level can cope with him.

however as a result of him drawing fouls with quick turns he gets injured a lot. he can also seem disinterested when he isnt getting the balls into feet he wants. this is why he is playing for us and not in the championship.

anyone who feels that if i like porter i cant like barker and vice versa is clearly not the full shilling.

they both have things they are good at. they both have things they are not so good at. they both have a flaw in the game that has prevented them playing successfully at a level higher than the one they are currently operating at.

what barkers biggest supporters on this board seem incapable of grasping is that there has never been a wholesale slagging of the bloke on this board in the way there has been with the likes of budz, elliott, antwi etc.

what a lot of us couldnt understand was why he was playing a full 90 minutes every week even when he was clearly out on his feet in games and when he was playing badly.

Superb post that clappp

thing is mate i really cant see me bumping into you at a game if you are in the exec boxes all the time cos we r in the millhouse.

not going to the ressies, watching everton march towards the uefa cup. when i said executive seating....i meant the cyril knowles !!
