DANNY Wilson today urged Hartlepool United supporters to stick with the team ahead of tomorrow's six-pointer with Luton Town.
Wilson was on the receiving end of flak during Tuesday night's defeat at Doncaster Rovers, with the disgruntled away contingent calling for the manager's head.

But the Pools boss remains confident that the spirit among his squad will see them through a difficult spell which has seen them slip down League One to just three points above the relegation zone.

Wilson said his side were able to turn it around last season when they went through a tricky patch and called on the Victoria Park faithful to lay off the players for the clash with the relegation-threatened Hatters.

"The stick certainly doesn't help matters, it is not like cheering somebody on," said Wilson.

"But they have to take it. The players are big enough and strong enough to get on with it.

"The fans need to stick with us. We have got the belief in this football club. We are not too perturbed about it.

"We are disappoitned where we are and we are working very hard to get that right.

"But to say we are in massive trouble is a massive overstatement. We are not.

"We are having a bit of a blip. Okay we are at the wrong end of the trouble but it could be rectified with a couple of results."

He added: "It is only the same situation as we were in last year. We had people who were disgruntled at that time. But we are disappointed just like they are.

"We have just got to get on with our jobs and believe we can get back up that league again."

Thoughts?

Why does Wilson think its just the players who are getting the stick and not him???

At the end of the day.

We are only pissed off because we care about our club.

If Wilson gets a team that peforms well, doesn't lay down and die and starts winning then everybody will be happy.

But that seems a million miles away right now.

Oh....and I also want us to win two in a row.

We need something like 1.4 points a game average to be reasonably sure we'll be safe. That's not asking a lot. We're not looking for outstanding form.

It looks like we're getting Monkhouse back. If that happens and the new guy can help shore up our leaky defence, it ought to make a big difference. It isn't every game where we look like we'd never score if we played all night.
There might be other players too who suddenly manage to pull a rich vein of form out their arse. It has happened before.

Yes we're in trouble but we have the means to get out of it if Mr Wilson can unlock the secret. I presume we all hope he does?

Despite being poor at the start of last season, the defence didn't look anywhere near as shaky as it does now.

I hope the new lad kicks everyone up the @rse. If something doesn't change I genuinely think we're on course to be relegated as a result of a pi$$ weak defence.

I'm amazed he thinks we're not in the mire. We are - and anything but victory tomorrow means the situation is getting more desperate

he knows we are in danger but he isnt gonna be like half of you lot who are running around screaming 'we are doomed, we are doomed'

he is trying to keep things as positive as can be, im sure behind closed doors he will be aware of the situation.

Some people really do need to stop analizing every single word he says though

We analiase every word because he talks a load of rubbish. Wilson has lost the players and the support of the fans. As for " we are doomed" scenerio, this is not us panicking over a couple of results, this is a systemic flow of poor results starting from last year. We are a ship thats slowly sinking . If you cannot see that then your as delusional as Mr Wilson.

We are heading for league 2 and we need to sort it out and quick.

He looked excellent today and apart from one flap from Budtz, the defence looked solid. More of the same please

im sorry but he has not lost the players yet, the performance today proves it, and that is 2 wins out of 3 with 8 goals scored, the potential is there and i still believe Wilson has the ability to keep us away from the bottom four. although a bit of consistency wouldnt go amiss

and do you think that keeping us out of the bottom four will justify another season?

what annoys me the most is when 90% of fans on the message boards state at the start of the season that they will be happy to finish 20th or above. Then when we show inconsistency and are hovering around 15th place they all start booting off claiming that the club are going backwards and that they want the manager sacking!!! maybe my maths is crap but surely 15th is BETTER than 20th?????

Wilson hasnt helped by chopping and changing the team and some of the football has been poor, but what do you expect when you predict your team to finish just above the relegation places? people want to be entertained and at 18 quid a head they have every right to hope for plenty of entertainment.

This season, for me, was always about survival. stay up, assess the squad, get rid of the people who arent good enough and then build from there. I have every faith in Wilsons ability to find a good player, there is only Ali Gibb for me who has been a bad purchase, so if we stay up (which i believe we will quite comfortably) then i expect next season to be much better, with quite a few better players.

plus we were spoilt under the Cooper years and I for one thought we'd be challenging for promotion especially after the way we won promotion last season.

its disappointing, but if we avoid relegation theres next season to look forward to where hopefully we'll give it a right go
