How on earth do you get into them? Have started a course there and the trains don't run at the right times, so I decided to drive yesterday
Since the 'new' one way system was built you can't turn into the Eldon Square one from my side of the road and I don't know Newcastle well enough to approach it from the other direction. Eventually had to park in something called 'Grainger Town multi storey, and then got lost.

Glad I've got that off my chest

Spent 4 years working in Newcastle trying to work that out but to no avail.

Personally if you don't need access to the car during the day and you're travelling up the A19, I would park at Heworth and get the Metro in. It should save you time and money.

If you need the car I would park in Dean Street multi storey. Across Tyne Bridge, Left slip road just after you cross bridge (onto Swan House roundabout) then 1st left, then left at lights onto Dean Street. Multi storey is tucked away on the left with short walk up into town centre

Thank you, Judge, that's very helpful.

I wouldn't dream of driving into Newcastle city centre, parking at Heworth is indeed the only realistic option. Our lass had to sit her licensing exams in Newcastle, and this is the method we used to get there.
The only other time we have to go into Newcastle is to visit S&N offices, but again it's not easy to get parked there so it's the metro from Heworth.

Do satnavs cover the ins and outs of car parks then? Anyway I defy them to keep up with the everchanging landscape of central Newcastle.
Could get a bus but they're so slow. And they rumble and joggle.

By the way...is there still a bus station in Hartlepool? It's certainly not where it used to be near the Mail Office

They've decided to spend a load of money on a new "Transport Interchange" on the side of the railway station which will include a bus station, taxi ranks etc. with the intention of centralising all of our transport links.

I think somebody forgot to tell them that the train services in and out of Hartlepool are total shite though.

The transport problem is one of the main reasons I wouldn't want to live in Hartlepool again.

If I have to drive into Newcastle I use the car park at the Arena or the one at the RVI hospital

I used that for a couple of years when i worked there and it's a short trot over a bridge into the town centre - ideal

Best place to park is the Quayside Car Park wor Grabec. There is always spaces there and its five minutes from the town centre. Not sure of the street name but I can guarantee its the best car park from lots of experience. Just east of the town centre like

I'd go to Heworth then, that way you don't battle any of the city centre traffic and then you can just jump on the metro to Haymarket; it's only about 10 minutes from Heworth and both Uni's are next to Haymarket.

That's what the 'spin' says Ripper... the reality is something different. People are gonna be disappointed if they think they're getting a bus station, that's where the use of the word 'interchange' hides the fact they're getting a glorified bus layby with a couple of state of the art bus shelters, those trendy glass ones, that don't actually 'shelter' you at all
Plus, when the two sets of new traffic lights are installed in Church Street the traffic will get even more congested.
Somehow I don't see people walking all the way across from the shopping centre crossing 5 sets of lights to get a bus that goes back past the way they've just walked...planning? sctatchinghead
Mind you, all those paved areas will make a lovely skate park.
I laughed when one spokesman conceded it's really for out of town services...that means the ratepayers have paid for a facility that non ratepayers will benefit from...marvellous
