Well I miss them anyway regardless of whether he's getting paid a fortune to sit warming the bench. I hope he stays but I wouldn't miss too much sleep if he didn't.

listen. I am not suggesting Wilson should resign over this.

I just think he is worth hanging on to.

If we had to release wages......surely we should get rid of Elliott, Boland etc

I concur. You won't see me shedding any tears with that useless tart Elliot leaves for pastures new.

Sweeney has made no progress in years - A poor mans Liddle.
He'll never be the next Tommy Miller he looked like being, so maybe it's time for him to move on. violin

My main problem in letting Sweeney go is he is another in the same mould as Darrell Clarke and Chris Westwood - someone who brightens the changing room a bit. Soon I fear there'll be no spirit at all left in there.

I don't think he is anywhere near in the same mould as them two to be honest, Joel Porter is probably the only remaining player of that ilk

I got the impression Bob, was a bit of an entertainer (no pun intended)
When he gets anywhere near the dressing room, that is

I reckon Sweens, is one that will definitely come back to haunt us !

if he does sign for Donny, surely to shit there's no way he would play against us???? Modern day transfer deals, especially involving swaps, tend to have agreememnts that the players concerned won't appear for their new clubs against their old clubs if they are going to play each other within a week or so.................however that's only if the clubs agree that will be the case. I have a feeling any such transfer involving Sweeney might include such a clause, if it were to go through......................

Are you suggesting that Tony Sweeney would walk straight into the central midfield of the team sitting fourth in League One when he's struggling to keep a place on the bench for the team sitting fourteenth in League One??

no, but it was a hypothetical question anyway - I was making the point about whether he would be made available for selection or not to play against Pools next week?

Heres a few names from Doncaster midfield squad:

Brian Stock
Richie Wellans
James Coppinger
Mark Wilson
Martin Woods
Paul Heffernan
Paul Green
Jason Price

Now where the holy buggery you'd imagine that Sweens would fit in there I dunno, but it's one of the most imaginative rumours I've ever heard.

'Cos I'd cut my right one off for three of those in Pools midfield.

Surely you wouldn't want Martin Woods. We've already had him as a Leeds cast-off once now you want him as a Donny cast-off.

it is a must that we keep Sweeny
dont spout rubbish about him not being up to it
under this regime he has had very little chance to prove it as they keep bringing old men in
give the lad a run in the side and he will certainly make it best box to box player at the club
i dont see the point of having a youth system if you are going to have this scenario every time one of them comes of age and could attract another club even just sitting on the bench and turning out for the stiffs sign him and play him

Talking to a Donny fan, he was somewhat bemused about the link as as has been stated there are already some very good central midfielders there and if he's after first team football he's unlikely to get it at Rovers. Wellens and Stock he rates as about the best partnership in the division, then with Wilson, Green and Woods as well the chances are he wouldn't get much of a chance. It sound more like someone reckons we're after Coppinger, and is floating a line about how the deal might be done....

As previously mentioned the stats suggest that Sweeney has had more than his chance under Wilson but he isn't performing and hasn't done for a long time. I like Sweeney and want to see him stay but he has to dramatically improve, however we don't have to be loyal to our youth products for the sake of being loyal.

didnt mr mad john also produce some stats showing that we average about twice as many points when sweeney plays than when he doesnt ?

either way if he dont want to play for us then he is entitled to a move.

he hasnt been as bad as boland this season though.

imho.

I concur.
