Barkers performance wasn't brilliant today, but moore wasn't even on the bench?

Richie Barker was excellent tonight IMO and played a vital part in all 4 goals.

err no he didnt. first goal was robson to brown who got tripped. admittedly barker took the penna.

second goal was porter to liddle to humps to brown.

third goal was an awful shot from barker going miles wide before being deflected into the path of brownie.

fourth goal was porter holding it up for about a week, drawing 2 defenders , shaping to shoot and then laying it into the path of sweeney.

he did put a lot of effort in to be fair. he always does. but he seems to be getting slower by the game.

Feck off Chip !!! rage banghead rage banghead

put it this way, twice porter played him in well inside the box and he was too slow to capitalise. those are facts.

he also wasnt involved in the goals we did score. which is also factually correct.

he did take the penalty. and he took it very well. and he did put a lot of effort in.

Shame you didnt mention when joel got into the box had Barker square but instead ran into 2 defenders and the ball came loose.Oh and thats a fact

barker played well. within his obvious limitations. porter and brown were the difference between us being a losing side and a winning side. on tonights evidence both could play at a higher level. not sure you could say the same of barker.

just an opinion like.

No you give selected match commentry, and those selected parts are to have ago at Barker even when he has a great game like he did tonight !

And yes Porter did well to fill Moore's abscence tonight !!!

sorry chip but it isnt factually correct

goal 1
barkers pen but they dont count do they

goal 2
barker won posession just outside the area before it was porter to liddle to humps to brown

goal 3
barkers initial two shots were on target before brown capitalised on the rebound

goal 4
barker fought to win the ball back on the sideline after their throw in before passing it to porter to lay it off for sweens

so yeah he really wasnt involved at all tonight was he

How is it stubborn when Moore is out injured?

Who else did he have and please don't say Foley or Mackay.... Either were an option in the last 20 twenty but neither is good enough to start.

Barker has his obvious imitations but his work rate tonight was commendable he worked his fooking bollox off, he still isn't on the same wave length as our best players though and it's not his fault. He is a good league two target man, I'm not sure anyone else in our league plays with one. That chance where he fell over just before Southend's second could have cost us, all he had to do is lay in young James for his hat-trick. But the 100% commitment he goes into every challenge with is admirable, he's not everyones cup of tea but he doesn't deserve so much stick he doesn't select himself.

Joel Porter was 10 out of 10 in that second half tonight how he deserved a goal, he was outstanding, finally Wilson can't say he hasn't seen the best of him. A joy to watch some of his touches were awesome on his day he is the best footballer in league one way above that level. We just need his knees to stay ungammy.

I shall answer you in parts.

I didn't know Moore was injured when I posted but even so its clear that we needed pace up front. Point proved tonight given that Porter and Brown did all the attacking - penalty taking apart.

MacKay I think would have been a better option, I agree completely with Chip in that Barker is a great Div 4 centre forward but this is a step up too far at his age.

i agree with you chip, barker is past it, yeah he runs his socks off but is fooked after half an hour. when he is on the pitch we play a lot more long balls, it was proved when he got dropped(sorry rested) we were a much better side and played a lot more of a passing game. but you will never silence the rose tinted wilson/barker spec wearers, point is we are a better side without barker!!!!! rage rage rage

so what exactly does he do mr mad john that impresses you so ? he never looked remotely like scoring tonight . again. apart from the penalty.

his work rate was excellent. his hold up play was average, his finishing, yet again i am sorry to say was very poor, and like many others on here i dont think what he does justifies 90 minutes of every game.

that said if the manager picks him he has no option but to play, and as i have always conceeded he works his socks off.

but you cannot seriously be suggesting he is the way forward ?

the first goal tonight came as a result of a bad tackle and some nifty footwork by jb. fair play it was an excellent penalty.

the second goal was exclusively down to a great finish after great perserverance by jb.

the third goal was a poachers finish by jb after a lucky deflection.

and the fourth goal was a great ball by porter to sweens who made a great run.

im prepared to accept that if you wind the tape back far enough barker will have been involved at some point.

but suggesting i welcome to the site. for pointing this out. stpid stpid stpid

plenty have said the same thing elsewhere on this thread and others. are you also going to tell them to welcome to the site. ?

2 points chip - Mad john did say he wasnt reading anymore of this thread so i doubt he'll see this reply. and secondly and most importantly, i thought we had agreed -"barker was man of the match. he was superb. he really is the all round dogs bollox." - your words not anyone else's

To suggest Barker wasn't involved in all four goals is absolutely ludicrous. You either weren't at the game or can only remember the previous two seconds before the goals were scored.

No-one is suggesting Richie Barker is now Cristiano Ronaldo, we all know him limitations but we put in an excellent attacking performance last night and it was his excellent work that contributed to two of the last three goals (as well as scoring a well taken penalty)

If Barker had played like that last season people would have been saying he had an 'excellent, typical Richie Barker performance'. It seems its fashionable to slate the lad now. God only knows why. banghead banghead

Ok I meant Richie Barker was complete dog turd tonight, no effort, little interest and it's no wonder we didn't score once with the likes of him upfront.

Chip, you're wasting your time.

Cos we won too many people on here want to jump to the conclusion that everything is rosey and all of our players are world beaters. Pointing out facts when they're in this mood is a waste of time.

For the record I thought that we won in spite of Barker and in spite of Godwin Antwi.

I agree that Barker works hard. He's just not good enough. He actually hindered our attack more than he helped it by being so far off the pace that Porter was having to lay backward balls to midfielders as opposed to through balls for his strike partner (who was gasping back around the half way line).

I never said anything was rosey and I have clearly stated that its obvious Barker still has his limitations to say the least but I am going to credit him for his performance last night. Nothing more, nothing less.

To suggest Barkers game was spent 'gasping back around the half way line' is both ridiculously unfair and untrue.

I still wouldn't complain if the guy got dropped next Tuesday as I know he isn't the answer to us progressing as a club but I am prepared to praise a player when they put in a good nights graft.

Come on lads, calm down.

I too think Barker has his limitations at this level, but he will give you 100% for 90 mins every game.

However last night, I don't think the manager had a great deal of choice, without Moore,
it had to te Barker / Porter (in his mind).

The test will come when Moore is available again, when it should be Brown / Porter,
with Moore on the right (and Bob on the left).
Let's wait and see.
