Sister Gertrude, teacher, alleged nun and abuser of thousands of Hartlepool's children. Appropriately she died a horrible painful death a couple of years ago.

Thats odd because I think she was a bully and a spiteful old woman who was known to hit children with much more force than any other teacher at EM used, but that isn't child abuse is it?

Ian, the woman beat children up regularly, I know this from personal experience. One particular instance she whacked me across the face (hard) with a ruler. The mark was there for weeks. I was certainly not alone in being on the receiving end of her violence. If a teacher did that today they would rightly go to jail. The woman was a child abuser and no amount of black dresses can change that.

john i was also caned at school and still remember it but i would not slag any one off that did it whether alive or dead we probably deserved it and never call them child abusers if that was the case then all teachers of that era were abusers
and going to jail for it is the reason that you have so many chavs walking around now carrying knives as there is no discipline at home or school

It's not a stunt, she was genuinely evil. She took pleasure in the violence that she gave out which would be wrong in any circumstances but for a nun it was unbelievable. I think it was the fact that she was such an unmerciful 'sister of mercy' that stays with me.

It's not an anti nun rant, There was another nun called Sister Angela who if there was any justice should be sainted. Similarly Father Bell was a truly good man (if a little too fond of the communion wine) I'll forgive him that as his greatness far outweighed his weaknesses.
