according to BBC teletext he is out of contract in January and will not sign a new one with Brighton so will be leaving then. Could he make a difference for us??? I know that he didn't do much to endere himself when they played us but is he the sort of forward we need? Please discuss

didn't we have him on trial, and sent him on his way ?

DW would never admit, he had made a mistake :!: :!:

I bow to your knowledge and stats MJ,
but I thought we had him training with us
for quite a while.
Also, didn't DW have him at Bristol City ?

I think DW had him at Bristol, Yeah! Paid a small fortune for him aswell
Like MadJohn says Bas was here on a trial in a closed door friendly scored aswell... I believe, But injured his leg, Ruling him out for up to 6 weeks, I believe it was back then
After about 4 of those 6 Brighton snapped him up!
According to Brightons chairman Savage is being "Greedy" by his wage demands

He was at Boston , a couple of seasons back.
Northampton signed him for 100 grand, when they got promoted and were throwing money around. He has scored a few goals at this level, averages about 1 in 3 (soccerbase)
Although I seem to remember, when he played against us he has not done a great deal

He's a good player but he disgraced himself when Brighton were at the Vic earlier in the season.

You would think Savage would do a job for us, but once here he would probably end up like all the other players of supposedly good pedigree we have signed in the past, he would get the Hartlepool curse, of loss of form and ability.

Bas Savage is probably better than what we have, i think Richie Barker is a good honest pro and in a year at Pools he has made a massive contribution but for us to be challenging near the top of the table he probably isn't good enough. Seeing him at the Vic Bas looked awkward and a bit of a handful and he seemed to have a bit of speed as well....

i can't see us getting him though.....

I think it's about time people started showing the players we've got a bit more respect. Savage has scored 12 goals in his professional career how people suggest he is better than we've got is beyond me. What is that based on? Come on Jonny? Was it that flukey goal against us when he should have lost the ball about three times?? He is like bambi on ice, within a couple of appearances he'd be getting slaughtered by the same experts who suggested we should sign him in the first place.

Barker has scored eleven this season and twenty plus in the previous two before yet gets talked about on here like he's the worst player we've ever had. I know he has his limitations but he is still a more than useful player. We have some good players at the club we have some good forwards I don't see how Marcus Richardson's fatter brother is going to improve us sctatchinghead

Just to give you an example of why Bristol City's (as voted by fans) 'worst ever player' has only scored a dozen goals in a 100 game career....

1) i have never said that Barker is shite, i rate him, he can do a job if we want to be a mid table team, but if we want to be up pushing for top 6 then he may not be good enough.

2) The only players i have said are shite on here are Sweeney, Eifion Williams and Ali Gibb because they are..... And he questiones the sense in signing Lee-Barratt when fans of Weymouth didn't rate him and Mr Barrett is hardly knocking on the door of the first teaam is he...?

3) We won't get Bas Savage anyway. But with his more ugly side of play occupying defenders it could give the wuality we do have more of a chance to thrive.....

Saying he probably isn't good enough is a strange way to express how you rate someone. Saying Bas Savage is better than what we've got is a down right insult, the lad is one of the biggest donkeys in the football league.

Fortune West
Tresor Kandol
Kevin Francis

All donkeys but effective. So PJ can you see us challenging near the top of league one with Richie Barker in the team? Bearing in mind the last two games that we have won he didn't start.

Allon
Baker
Miller
Saville
Boyd

Not donkeys, real players with ability, the ones you mentioned give donkeys a bad name

Fortune West was shite, Kandol is a bounder and how the fcuk Baz Savage ever got as pro contract is beyond even the deepest of thinkers

No the point I am making is that you've said Bas Savage is 'better than we have.' Barker is not really the argument, the three players you mention all have proven track records as goal scorers in the lower leagues (maybe not Kandol yet)

You are saying Bas Savage (12 goals for 6 soon to be 7 clubs hey thats two goals a club.... marcusrichardsontastic!) is better than Ian Moore (100 career goals) Barker (100+ goals) Porter (a full international) Brown (nuff said) and Mackay. What you have said is an insult to the forwards we already have.

Bas Savage wouldn't get near any of the better teams in this league I'm amazed clubs keep signing him.

All the players who played and scored for US were a country mile better then the shiteknockers you mentioned!

it is good to have a plan B. Bas Savage is a completely different sort of player to Mackay so it is silly to compare them......

Not a great plan B though is he? Mackay has scored as many this season, thats what the game is about surely for a forward. Barker is the plan B he has a different game to our other forwards, and he's better at it than Bas fooking Savage.

I would be mortified if we ever signed such a spud.

Quite correct, but I would rather have a forty something Paul Baker in our squad then Baz Savage, he's a spud of the highest order

if we bring Savage here (and I wouldn't dismiss that possibility because of DW's previous links with the player), I bet we'd end up with a front pairing of Savage and Barker!!
A mouth-watering prospect indeed.

i dont think savage is the way forward. i think the pairing of moore and porter, so effective against tranmere, is probably good enough to trouble most teams in this division.

i was a bit sceptical about moore when we signed him, but he has won me over in lots of ways. the only downside i can see in his game at present is that he never seems to get on the end of any of barkers headed flick-ons, but i dont think thats his game really.

like porter he seems to be a proper footballer that likes the ball to his feet.

i think duffy, even though he is a puff, would be a better signing.

i think barker/savage would be more effective in a side playing with 2 natural wingers that get a lot of crosses into the box, and i dont think thats our style. both brown and humps are looking to cut in a lot of the time and play balls into forwards feet in the box. thats not really playing to barkers strength.

How old fashioned to call him a 'puff' get with the times Chip, he's a bummer
