They should be charged with murder if anything happens to a single child because of their actions.

Especially our local MP who has gone along with all of this for his own ends.

But the self righteous sanctimonious gits will just give their usually cheesy smile and blame some other fker.

So the NHS will have to withdraw its disapproval of home births now, then? The official line is that mothers are endangering babies by having home births, on the grounds that new-borns often need expert specialist care

My mam started working night shifts at the SCBU at Cameron Hospital back in the 60s. Apart from a short break between my elder sister's birth and my own she continued working there until Cameron shut in the early 90s at which point SCBU moved to the General and she moved with it. She officially "retired" half a dozen years ago, but still works on a part-time basis 3 or 4 nights a month, whenever it gets especially busy. She is 71. She got a call earlier in the week asking if she could work tonight. She was delighted to accept as it gives her a chance to say goodbye to a lot of people. She doesn't like driving out of town and so she will not follow SCBU away from Hartlepool. Tomorrow morning she will finally begin her retirement for real.

The NHS is correct in that view though.

Without wishing to say something controversial......why the hell would anyone want to give birth at home, when the hospital is only 5 minutes away, with all of them lovely pain relieving drugs available. Do pregnant women go mental or something? stpid stpid

The decision to shut wards, units, hospitals is a government decision, not a doctors.

Well, I could tell you about my experience of giving birth in a hospital, but I know how squeamish you all are! But it started off with my being admitted early to 'avoid infection'... and put onto a ward with incredibly gungy loos which of course diminished my risk of infection no end
But really, midwives are usually very experienced and intelligent people, and probably if people who want to give birth at home its because they want to be in the care of midwives rather than in the care of doctors who, eg, for their own convenience often induce births unnecessarily.

It sounds pretty horrific, Mr Dibble
I've been in hospital several times in me life....some staff have been good, others not, but I've felt every time that the NHS just has accepted routines for various ailments. If you're a text book case, the routine fits. if you're not (and probably most people aren't) the staff simply are not trained to think in terms of adjusting to circumstances. Which is why I'm a medical wreck

Spot on.

The best thing that could happen for Hartlepool at the next general election would be a strong independent candidate willing to fight for the town rather than for himself.

I don't like to argue when it's your birthday but how much muscle would an independent candidate actually have, when it came to votes in Parliament?

How much "muscle" does our current lap-dog have when it comes to votes in Parliament?

At least an independent would only vote with the Government if that was what he believed to be in the best interests of the town.

Yes, but in practical terms, how would that help to avoid, say, a hospital close down? It's no use, Mr Ripper, you'll just have to come away with me to my anarcho-syndicalist commune

ok lets put this into football terms so you all know what to do come polling day
putting aside the minor games such as Marshall town v Allison Athletic
and get on to the big games
Labour Cetic v Tory Gooners
now through out their history in the Hartlepool PRIME league
Labour Celtic have pretty much lorded it over their rivals for generations infact the opposition have not won a game since 1959 and that was by the slimmest of margins and some say skullduggery took place to end the career of Celtic stalwart Davy Jones. But the torrid reign of the Gooners Captain ended in shame as their captain Kerans ran off with his secretary.a ploy followed by many of his colleagues in later years
Labour Celtic found a new shining star in the form of TED the Led who did lead for a long time taking on all the Gooners that popped up to the grimey north
The Gooners slipped back into non league for some considerable time giving the lesser lights in the league the chance to challenge the giants
Ted was so successful he decided to quit at the top and left the team in the capable hands of Peter the great
who again seen off all comers including Taxi Driver half brother to Mini and Ronnie crooner Carroll
Peter the great was destined for higher office and moved over to let in the pint sized mid field dynamo Im Wrigty to control things which he is still doing despite the knockers
now if you look at the form book Gooners one win in 64 years is nothing to write home about where as Celtic have gone on to record after record even despite the threat of Headbangers united who sank without trace
so do you go for a proven winner or do you go for the perrenial also rans
my money is on the CELTIC

The whole sordid hospital saga makes me very angry. I am just waiting for the day that the little Uriah Heep lookalike we have as an MP comes round pre-election for a door to door chat...first he'll get my evil look and then I'll give him my 'opinion'

We had to go through to North Tees hospital tonight for a look around and to see whereabouts everything is and the new post natel and antenatal wards are nowhere near finished yet, although the old ones are still running . My mrs is due to drop in less than 6 weeks now but the whole maternity unit in Hartlepool will be shut from next week until sometime in Spring

Spot on.

The best thing that could happen for Hartlepool at the next general election would be a strong independent candidate willing to fight for the town rather than for himself.

I don't like to argue when it's your birthday but how much muscle would an independent candidate actually have, when it came to votes in Parliament?

Obviously one person can't vote the house down but he wouldn't be fettered by the party whips and could open his mouth as wide as he wanted. He could be a huge embarrassment to the government

I think this bollocks about no credible alternative doesn't wash personally. If they're crap, vote them out. If the next lot are crap, vote them out. If they get sacked every four years or so they'll have to be bloody sight less arrogant and dismissive than they are now.

And if you don't use your vote, shut the fu ck up.

A sad day indeed our first child was born in Hartlepool but we've decided with all the uncertainty around the Maternity ward now, that we will have our second child in North Durham university hospital

Which is a bit of harsh fact for a newborn. On a side issue, the fact that far less people will end up being born in Hartlepool means that a couple of decades down the line a whole generation of youths will have a lazy excuse for not supporting Pools ("Well, I was born in North Tees so my local side is really the Boro")

All three of our lads were born in North Tees, but they are all Poolies, I told them that Billingham is a suburb of Hartlepool.
