Watching breakfast telly this morning they were bleating on about how the Government has to make life better for kids.

What a sack of tosh.

They reckon that they should build playgrounds for them? Bollox. We amused ourselves for hours and days on end with the rec, the allotments etc when we were kids.

They reckon that they should scrap tests in schools cos they stress the kids out? That's priceless. We had tests every year in school from juniors onwards before stress was even invented. Before that the old folk had to do the 11+ which went a long way to determining their whole future.

This namby pamby Government really does like spending our money on shi'ite.

Before stress was invented haha

When I was a youngun we used to leave the house at 8, go garden hopping, play nicky nocky nine doors, hide and seek, footy on the old boys (cricket when it was really hot) and then go in when it was dark.

Good times

That was only the early 90's too!

Cos it's a waste of money.

The money would be better spent on more prisons and some good old-fashioned borstals to get the scum off the streets and encourage kids to just "play out".

By "garden hopping and playing nicky nocky nine doors"

do you mean; Trespassing and harrassment?

Agreed. Mr Avenger.

But all they'll do is build something and then leave it- allowing the scumbags to use it as a hang out and prohibit nice kids from going there anyway. Hence a waste of money if they don't lock up the bastads who spoil it for everybody else.

So what happened, and more to the point, how?

Simple...

'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who
has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was,
since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He
will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the
worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more
than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in
charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the
job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly
children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental
consent to administer sun lotion or an Elastoplast to a student; but
could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to
have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became
contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better
treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you
couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar
could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in
her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his
wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He
is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now,
Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If
you still remember him, pass this on.. If not, join the majority and do
nothing.'

Dibble, do you remember that old bloke who all the kids hated and was always threatening to put a knife through your ball if it went into his garden? You must do, every street had one of these miserable old gets.

Take a bow Mr Dibble, the years have passed and now you are that old get.

The bit I don't understand is that they are vowing to build playgrounds etc in under privileged areas, surely these aren't the only areas that should have money spent on it

Times have changed ...me and our kid were caught hanging on the back of buses and jumping off, we'd have been about 9...We were caught by a bobby on a bike, complete with bike clips... bollocking followed by names and addresses, no point lying, he lived in the police houses round the corner ( that's when they lived amongst you and knew what was going on...which actually prevented worse things getting a foothold) ...we went home 'reluctantly'... 'Daddy' invited us in to 'discuss' what had happened, his only words being,......"you've brought the police to the door"... let's just say he didn't give us counselling .........or charge off down the cop shop to complain his sons were being harassed. Lesson learned.
